ONE-ON-ONE MENTORING - WITH GIRLS 18+ AGED OUT OF FOSTER CARE. SOME HAVE GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL AND ARE CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN COLLEGE. OUR MOST DESPERATE CASE WAS A YOUNG LADY WHO WAS LIVING IN A GROUP HOME AND HAD BEEN HOMELESS SINCE HER 18TH BIRTHDAY IN DECEMBER. SHE HAS RECENTLY SECURED HOUSING AND IS EMPLOYED. CONNECTIONS WITH ALL MENTEES ARE CURRENTLY VIA PHONE AND TEXT MESSAGE DUE TO SOCIAL DISTANCING MANDATES.
CELEBRATE 18 - ANNUAL BIRTHDAY PARTY PREPARED FOR 100 GIRLS AGING OUT AND TURNING 18 WITHIN THE YEAR. PARTY INCLUDES NEW CLOTHES, SHOES, ACCESSORIES, MAKEOVERS BY PROFESSIONAL HAIRDRESSERS, MAKE-UP ARTISTS AND NAIL TECHNICIANS. EACH GIRL RECEIVES A NEW 22" ROLLING DUFFEL BAG. ON HAND ARE SERVICE PROVIDERS, EMPLOYERS, SCHOOLS AND TRAINING INSTITUTIONS AVAILABLE TO ANSWER QUESTIONS AND PROVIDE INFORMATION. THE PARTY CONCLUDES WITH A CATERED DINNER, A PRESENTATION FROM FOSTER ALUM AND AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE GIRLS TO ASK QUESTIONS OF WOMEN WHO HAD BEEN IN THEIR SHOES. COMMUNITY SUPPORT AND DONATIONS COVERS ALL OF THE COSTS. THE 3ND ANNUAL CELEBRATE 18 IS SCHEDULED FOR JULY 16, 2022 AND WILL INCLUDE THE GIRLS WHO TURNED 18 IN 2021.
