BY TRACKING LEGISLATION AND PROVIDING TESTIMONY IN THE OHIO GENERAL ASSEMBLY ON MATTERS WHICH MAY IMPACT CIVIL LIBERTIES, THE ACLU OF OHIO SEEKS TO PROTECT AND EXPAND OHIOANS' FREEDOMS. THE ORGANIZATION RECENTLY CONTACTED LEGISLATORS OR PROVIDED TESTIMONY ON THE FOLLOWING ISSUES, AMONG OTHERS: CRIMINAL JUSTICE; DEATH PENALTY REPEAL; VOTING RIGHTS; LGBTQ NONDISCRIMINATION; FREE SPEECH; PRIVACY; AND REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS.
THE ORGANIZATION HAS PRIORITIZED BAIL REFORM AS ONE AVENUE TO CURBING MASS INCARCERATION AND ENDING RACIAL DISPARITIES IN THE CRIMINAL LEGAL SYSTEM.
