MISSION IS TO END THE EPIDEMIC OF GUN VIOLENCE ACCROSS THE COMMONWEALTH AND OUR COUNTRY THROUGH EDUCATION, COALITION BUILDING, AND ADVOCACY.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

THE GREATEST IMPACT WE HAD THIS PAST FISCAL YEAR ON POLICY WAS OUR ABILITY TO ENGAGE LAWMAKERS - THROUGH CAPITOL VISITS WITH MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS, STUDENTS, AND SURVIVORS AS WELL AS THROUGH OUR TESTIMONY AT THE EXTREME RISK PROTECTION ORDER AND SUICIDE SESSION OF THE SPECIAL COUNCIL ON GUN VIOLENCE. THE CAPITOL VISITS PRESENT THE TRUE IMPACT OF GUN VIOLENCE TO THE LAWMAKERS IN A DEEPLY PERSONAL WAY. IT PROVIDES THE LEGISLATOR WITH A REMINDER THAT THE DECISIONS THEY MAKE (OR DO NOT MAKE) HAVE CONSEQUENCES AND THAT THEIR ULTIMATE RESPONSIBILITY IS TO THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF THEIR CONSTITUENTS. SO ALTHOUGH WE DID NOT HAVE SWEEPING POLICY CHANGES, WE WERE ABLE TO HAVE IMPACTFUL CONVERSATIONS WITH LEGISLATORS SUCH AS WHEN WE SHARED OUR RESEARCH ON THE INCREASE IN FIREARM DEATHS DUE TO SUICIDE OVER CONSECUTIVE YEARS IN DIFFERENT DISTRICTS. EVERY LEGISLATOR'S OFFICE THAT WE SHARED THAT INFORMATION WITH - IT WAS THE FIRST TIME THAT DATA FROM COUNTY CORONERS HAD BEEN SHARED WITH THEM.
