CITY BALLET, UNDER THE ARTISTIC DIRECTION OF STEVEN WISTRICH, PRESENTED A SEASON OF FIVE PRODUCTIONS PERFORMED IN THEATERS IN THE SAN DIEGO AREA WHILE THE COMPANYS HOME THEATER, THE HISTORIC SPRECKELS THEATRE, UNDERGOES RENOVATIONS. PRODUCTIONS INCLUDED PREMIERE WORKS CHOREOGRAPHED BY RESIDENT CHOREOGRAPHER GEOFFREY GONZALEZ IN ON THE MOVE, WORKS BY GEORGE BALANCHINE AND PETER MARTINS IN FROM BALANCHINE TO MARTINS, RESIDENT CHOREOGRAPHER ELIZABETH WISTRICHS THE NUTCRACKER ACCOMPANIED BY THE CITY BALLET ORCHESTRA, INNOVATIVE CONTEMPORARY WORKS BY BOTH RESIDENT CHOREOGRAPHERS IN INSPIRATION IN MOTION AND ELIZABETH WISTRICHS FULL LENGTH ROMEO AND JULIET ACCOMPANIED BY THE CITY BALLET ORCHESTRA FOR A TOTAL AUDIENCE OF 7747 PATRONS.
DURING THE SEASON, CITY BALLET CONTINUED TO OFFER THE FOLLOWING EDUCATION AND OUTREACH PROGRAMS BALLET GOES TO SCHOOL PROGRAM WITH SPECIAL PERFORMANCES OF CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS AND ROMEO AND JULIET FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN DURING SCHOOL HOURS AS FIELD TRIPS TO THE THEATERS, DISCOVER A DANCER PROGRAM WHICH IS A BALLET RESIDENCY OF WEEKLY BALLET CLASSES FREE OF CHARGE FOR AT RISK SCHOOL CHILDREN OFFERED AT THEIR TITLE I SCHOOL THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR AND CULMINATING IN A PRESENTATION FOR FAMILY MEMBERS AND FRIENDS, SUMMER INTENSIVE PROGRAM, A THREE-WEEK INTENSIVE FOR CAREER-MINDED BALLET STUDENTS THAT INCLUDED PRINCIPAL DANCERS WITH NEW YORK CITY BALLET AS GUEST TEACHERS AND CULMINATED IN A FREE PERFORMANCE AND OUTREACH PRESENTATIONS WERE GIVEN AT QUALCOMM, ARTWALK, ART GALLERIES AND AREA LIBRARIES, PLUS TWO FAMILY BALLET PRODUCTIONS OF CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS AND ALICE IN WONDERLAND ON AREA THEATERS.
