THE MISSION OF THE VIRGINA WARING INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION IS TO EXCITE, EDUCATE, AND ENGAGE THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE WITH THE JOY OF CLASSICAL PIANO BY PRESENTING, PROMOTING, AND NURTURING CLASSICAL MUSIC THROUGH LIVE PIANO PERFORMANCE INCLUDING INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIONS, CONCERTS, AND LOCAL EDUCATION OUTREACH PROGRAMS FOR ALL AGES.

BETWEEN JULY 1, 2022 AND JUNE 30, 2023 VIRGINIA WARING INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION DBA PALM SPRINGS INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION OFFERED FOUR CONCERTS FEATURING WORLD-RENOWNED PIANISTS IN THE COACHELLA VALLEY. AT EACH CONCERT, COMPLIMENTARY TICKETS WERE PROVIDED TO THE COMMUNITY'S SENIOR CITIZENS AND MIDDLE/HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. THE PRIMARY FOCUS OF COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND EDUCATION WAS THE REINVIGORATION OF OUR HANDS-ON KEYBOARD CLASSES, OFFERED TO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS. THE CLASSES WERE OFFERED TO SCHOOLS WHOSE STUDENTS COME FROM THE LOWEST INCOME AREAS. THESE CLASSES ALLOW STUDENTS TO LEARN THE BASICS OF PIANO, FROM POSTURE TO PLAYING, AT NO COST TO STUDENTS OR FAMILIES. FOLLOWING OUR RELOCATION FROM PALM DESERT, CA TO PALM SPRINGS, CA, FOCUS WAS GIVEN TO REBUILDING OUR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM. APPROXIMATELY 37 VOLUNTEERS PROVIDED MORE THAN 60 HOURS DURING THE FISCAL YEAR.
