NEW LEASH ON LIFE USA RESCUES DOGS FROM SHELTERS AND TAKES THEM TO PRISONS TO LOVE AND BE TRAINED BY INMATES FOR 3 MONTHS. JOB READINESS AND LIFE SKILLS WORKSHOPS ARE PROVIDED FOR THE INMATES AS WELL AS INTERNSHIPS UPON PAROLE AND NEW LEASH ON LIFE FINDS GOOD HOMES FOR THE DOGS. CURRENTLY, THE ONE YEAR RECIDIVISM RATE FOR NEW LEASH GRADUATES IS 9.27%, COMPARED TO THE 33% ONE YEAR RECIDIVISM RATE OF THE GENERAL PRISON POPULATION IN PHILADELPHIA. SINCE THE PROGRAM STARTED IN AUGUST 2011 NEW LEASH ON LIFE USA HAS RESCUED AND ADOPTED 234 DOGS AND 311 PARTICIPANTS HAVE GRADUATED FROM THE PROGRAM, WITH 107 EMPLOYED FULLTIME.
