Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
IN 2020, NOTES FOR EDUCATION HAD THE SAME STRUGGLES WITH PROGRAMS AS THE REST OF THE WORLD DUE TO THE PANDEMIC. WE WERE STILL ABLE TO WORK ON THREE MAJOR INITIATIVES TO SUPPORT OUR MISSION OF PROVIDING MUSIC EDUCATION TO CHILDREN IN OUR LOCAL SCHOOLS.INITIATIVE #1 3-YEAR DISCRETIONARY SPENDING FOR MUSIC TEACHERS IN 2019, NOTES COMMITTED TO A 3 YEAR INITIATIVE TO PROVIDE DISCRETIONARY FUNDING FOR THE MUSIC TEACHERS IN THE METRO NASHVILLE SCHOOL DISTRICT. THE DIRECT SUPPORT TO THE TEACHERS HAS ALLOWED THEM TO HELP THEIR STUDENTS IN THE SPECIFIC WAY THAT IS NEEDED FOR THEM. SOME EXAMPLES OF THE USE OF FUNDS: ONLINE ACCESS TO PROGRAMS, PAPER AND SUPPLIES FOR HANDOUTS, CLEANERS FOR INSTRUMENTS (ADDITIONAL NEEDED FOR COVID RELATED REQUIREMENTS).
INITIATIVE #2 GARGIULO MUSIC ROOM THE GARGIULO MUSIC ROOM WILL BE A REMODELED AND OUTFITTED DEDICATED MUSIC ROOM FOR STUDENTS IN NAPA'S RIVER SCHOOL. THE FUNDS WERE RAISED IN 2019 AND THE PLANS STARTED IN 2020. SOME OF THE EXPENSES IN 2020 INCLUDED NEW INSTRUMENTS AND STORAGE PLANS, A SOUNDPROOFING STUDY AND PLAN SO THAT THE STUDENTS CAN PLAY INSTRUMENTS AND NOT DISTURB OTHER CLASSROOMS. SINCE THE SCHOOLS SHUT DOWN AND CONVERTED TO VIRTUAL LEARNING IN 2020, THE ROOM WAS NOT COMPLETED IN 2020 BUT WILL MOVE FORWARD TO A 2021 INITIATIVE.
INITIATIVE #3 NASHVILLE SYMPHONY FIELD TRIPS EVERY YEAR, NOTES SENDS METRO NASHVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS TO THE SYMPHONY. THE PROGRAM WAS UNDERWAY AT THE BEGINNING OF 2020 BUT WAS CANCELED FOR THE REMAINDER OF 2020 ONCE THE PANDEMIC HIT IN THE SPRING OF 2020.
