BY LEARNING, SHARING AND GROWING, MARKETUMBRELLA.ORG (MUO) CULTIVATES COMMUNITY MARKETS THAT UTILIZE LOCAL RESOURCES TO BOLSTER AUTHENTIC LOCAL TRADITIONS. MUO BELIEVES THAT AMBITIOUS SOCIAL, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENTAL AND FINANCIAL GOALS ARE ACHIEVED IF TRUST AND RESPECT ARE PRESENT. MUO'S PROGRAMS INVOLVE ASSISTING OTHER MARKETS TO MEASURE THEIR OWN ECONOMIC IMPACT USING THEIR OWN DEVELOPED TOOLS, HOSTING WORKSHOPS IN DEVELOPING FUNDING STRATEGIES AND BEST PRACTICES, AND LAUNCHING AND CONDUCTING A NUMBER OF PROGRAMS THAT TARGET SPECIFIC AGRICULTURALLY BASED ENTERPRISES. MUO SERVES BOTH RESEARCH AND PRACTITIONER BY TESTING THEORIES ABOUT PUBLIC MARKETS VIA THE OPERATION OF ITS LONGEST RUNNING PROGRAM, THE CRESCENT CITY FARMERS MARKET.

CRESCENT CITY FARMERS MARKET (CCFM) IS THE HALLMARK PROJECT FOR MUO, WHERE STAFF AND LOCAL VENDORS PROVIDE A PROFESSIONALLY RUN FARMERS MARKET SIX DAYS PER WEEK IN ORLEANS AND JEFFERSON PARISHES. CCFM ENSURES THAT EVERYONE FROM KIDS TO SENIORS HAS ACCESS TO HEALTHY LOCAL FOODS. THE CCFM IS INSTRUMENTAL IN BRINGING THE COMMUNITY TOGETHER WITH LOCAL FOOD PRODUCERS AS THEY SHARE INFORMATION AND TRANSACT BUSINESS.


MARKET MATCH - MUO BELIEVES FARMERS MARKETS SHOULD BENEFIT FARMERS, SHOPPERS, AND THE WIDE COMMUNITY. THROUGH MARKET MATCH, MUO OFFERS INCENTIVES TO VULNERABLE CONSUMERS TO PURCHASE THE BEST LOCAL PRODUCE AVAILABLE AT OUR MARKETS AND REFRESH FARMERS MARKET. PARTICIPANTS ENJOY THE MAGIC OF FARMERS MARKETS BY ACTIVELY PURCHASING LOCAL FOODS DIRECTLY FROM FARMERS AND FISHERS.


MARKET MOMMAS CLUB IS A BREASTFEEDING INCENTIVE PROGRAM OPEN TO MOTHERS AND MOTHERS-TO-BE WHO ARE BREASTFEEDING OR PLANNING TO BREASTFEED AND CURRENTLY ELIGIBLE FOR LOUISIANA MEDICAID. MOMS ARE PARTNERED WITH A BREASTFEEDING PEER GROUP FOR SUPPORT AND THE OPPORTUNITY TO BECOME A MARKET MOMMAS CLUB MEMBER. MEMBERS RECEIVE $80 PER MONTH FOR UP TO SIX MONTHS OR UNTIL THE PROGRAM'S END.
