FOUNDED IN 1973, STARS MISSION IS TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF INDIVIDUALS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL AND COGNITIVE DISABILITIES. WE DO THIS THROUGH DAY PROGRAMS, ON-SITE WORK CENTERS AND COMMUNITY-BASED EMPLOYMENT-BASED TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES.

COMPETITIVE INTEGRATED EMPLOYMENT (CIE), FORMERLY EMPLOYMENT FIRST INITIATIVE, PREPARES HIGH-FUNCTIONING INDIVIDUALS FOR FULLY INCLUSIVE INDEPENDENT EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES USING A MULTI-PHASE MODEL INCLUDING DISCOVERY (INDIVIDUAL SKILL AND TALENT ASSESSMENT), THROUGH READINESS (FOCUS ON THE INDIVIDUALS SPECIFIC CHALLENGES AND HOW THEY WILL WORK BEST WITHIN THE EMPLOYMENT ENVIRONMENT), TO PLACEMENT, WHICH INCLUDES WORK-BASED LEARNING AND ON-THE-JOB COACHING. THE DISCOVERY PROCESS, IS DESIGNED AS AN OPEN-ENDED PROCESS THAT ALLOWS THE INDIVIDUALS TO DETERMINE THEIR STRENGTHS AND DESIRES TO HELP THEM BUILD A DREAM JOB. THE CIE PROGRAM PROVIDES THESE INDIVIDUALS WITH THE TOOLS TO DEVELOP BOTH INDEPENDENCE AND ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY. RESULTS, SINCE OUR FIRST PLACEMENT IN JULY 2020, HAVE BEEN IMPRESSIVE. WE HAVE ENROLLED 88 PARTICIPANTS IN THE PROGRAM.
OTHER PROGRAMS INCLUDE TRANSPORTATION AND IN-HOME HCBS SERVICES THAT INCLUDE RESPITE, HABILITATION AND ATTENDANT CARE. HCBS WAS LAUNCHED IN APRIL 2021 AND SERVED 3 INDIVIDUALS.
DAY TRAINING FOR ADULTS (DTA), ONE OF STARS SIGNATURE PROGRAMS, SERVES 42 INDIVIDUALS WITH A WIDE RANGE OF NEEDS WITH LIFE, SOCIAL AND FUNCTIONAL SKILLS TRAINING. OUR PRE-VOCATIONAL PROJECT ALLOWS MEMBERS TO PARTICIPATE IN HANDS-ON JOB TRAINING SUCH AS IDENTIFYING JOB INTERESTS, SKILL DEVELOPMENT, RESUME BUILDING, AND MOCK INTERVIEWS, IN PREPARATION FOR FUTURE JOB OPPORTUNITIES. IN ADDITION TO CONTINUING TO SERVE ITS CURRENT PARTICIPANTS, DTA EXPECTS FUTURE GROWTH AS IT CURRENTLY HAS A WAITLIST.
THE WORK CENTER AT STARS OSBORN CAMPUS PROVIDES VOCATIONAL TRAINING TO DEVELOP APPROPRIATE WORKPLACE BEHAVIORS, WHILE PROVIDING COMPENSATED EMPLOYMENT IN ASSEMBLY AND LIGHT MANUFACTURING TASKS FOR VARIOUS NON-PROFIT AND CORPORATE PARTNERS. WORKER PRODUCTIVITY HAS SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVED, RESULTING IN AN ALMOST 54% INCREASE IN WORK CENTER REVENUES SINCE PRIOR TO COVID AN ASTOUNDING INCREASE IN PRODUCTIVITY FOR ANY ORGANIZATION, NONPROFIT OR OTHERWISE.
