OPERATION SCHOOL BELL - IS THE NATIONAL PHILANTHROPY OF ASSISTANCE LEAGUE. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES NEW COMMON DRESS CLOTHING AND OTHER ITEMS, AS REQUESTED BY THE SCHOOLS, TO ELIGIBLE ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL CHILDREN IN THE SANTA ROSA AND ROSELAND SCHOOL DISTRICTS. DURING THE PAST FISCAL YEAR, 1,990 STUDENTS WERE OUTFITTED. IN ADDITION, THE PROGRAM PROVIDED 49 TICKETS TO PROJECT GRADUATION CELEBRATIONS IN SANTA ROSA CITY HIGH SCHOOLS.
BOOSTER BAGS - BOOSTS THE SPIRITS OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN CRISIS BY PROVIDING BACKPACKS/BAGS CONTAINING FOOD, TOILETRIES AND CLOTHING. ADDITIONALLY PROVIDED ARE GIFT CERTIFICATES TO OUR ASSISTANCE LEAGUE THRIFT SHOP AS WELL AS BUS TICKETS. DURING THE PAST FISCAL YEAR, THIS PROGRAM DISTRIBUTED 516 BACKPACKS/BAGS AND 1,170 BUS TICKETS TO THE FOLLOWING LOCAL SHELTERS: YWCA WOMEN'S EMERGENCY SHELTER AND THE LIVING ROOM. ALSO, 71 THRIFT SHOP GIFT CERTIFICATES WERE REDEEMED (63 AT $12 AND 8 AT $20) FOR A TOTAL OF $916.
SIGHTS AND SOUNDS - PROVIDES FREE SCREENING TO PRESCHOOL CHILDREN IN SONOMA COUNTY TO DETECT VISION AND HEARING PROBLEMS. OUR PROFESSIONALLY TRAINED VOLUNTEERS SCREENED 1,131 CHILDREN ATTENDING 39 PRESCHOOLS. OUR MEMBERS WORK IN COOPERATION WITH PREVENT BLINDNESS NORTHERN CALIFORNIA.
