CCIRA'S PURPOSE IS TO IMPROVE LITERACY INSTRUCTION AT ALL LEVELS WITH DIVERSE POPULATIONS, SUPPORT LOCAL COUNCILS & MEMBERS IN PROMOTING AND ADVANCING LITERACY, RECOGNIZE & HONOR SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS TO & ACHIEVEMENTS IN LITERACY, TO BE A RESPECTED & VIABLE VOICE IN LITERACY CONVERSATIONS AND DECISIONS IN CO, ADVOCATE FOR POLICIES & PRACTICES THAT SUPPORT THE BEST FOR ALL LEARNERS, AND ENCOURAGE LIFELONG HABITS & APPRECIATION. CCIRA'S CONFERENCE PROVIDES PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COVERING SUCH TOPICS AS THINKING STRATEGIES, RESEARCH, RESPONSE TO INSTRUCTION, STUDENT ENGAGEMENT, ELL/ISSUES OF CULTURE AND POVERTY, AND TECHNOLOGY. CCIRA USES WORKSHOPS, LAB CLASSROOM EXPERIENCES, QUALIFIED SPEAKERS & AUTHORS, AND EXHIBITS. CCIRA ALSO CONDUCTS A YOUNG WRITERS FESTIVAL, ORGANIZES AUTHOR VISITS TO COLORADO SCHOOLS, PROVIDES A DVD AND VIDEO LIBRARY, PROVIDES PARENT & READING RESOURCES, AND DESIGNATES OCTOBER AS "READ ALOUD MONTH" IN THE STATE OF COLORADO, PROVIDING MATERIALS TO PROMOTE THIS CONCEPT.
