BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT: DURING 2021, GREATER PORTLAND INC. ("GPI") CONTINUED TO ASSIST WITH BUSINESS RECRUITMENT BY CREATING TARGETED AWARENESS OF THE VALUE PROPOSITION FOR THE REGION AS A PLACE FOR BUSINESS AND GROWS THE RECRUITMENT FUNNEL TO BRING TRADED-SECTOR EXPANSION AND RELOCATION PROJECTS TO THE REGION THROUGH THE FOLLOWING: COORDINATION OF TAILORED RESEARCH FOR SUITABLE LAND AND BUILDINGS, LABOR AVAILABILITY, AND OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION.FACILITATION OF KEY PARTNERSHIPS WITH LOCAL UTILITY COMPANIES, HIGHER EDUCATION AND OTHER BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT PARTNERS. ASSISTANCE TO LOCAL COMMUNITY PARTNERS WITH BUSINESS RETENTION/EXPANSION AND GENERAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT EFFORTS THROUGH THE FOLLOWING: PREPARATION OF THE MOST CURRENT MARKET, ECONOMIC AND DEMOGRAPHIC INFORMATION.DEVELOPMENT OF THE GREATER PORTLAND GLOBAL PLAN TO INCREASE EXPORTS AND FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT ACTIVITY IN THE REGION. ABILITY TO PROVIDE INDUSTRY AND MARKET ANALYSIS, ECONOMIC AND FISCAL ANALYSIS AND OPERATION COST COMPARISON ANALYSIS. IN 2021, GPI BROUGHT 592 NEW JOBS TO THE REGION. THE ESTIMATED IMPACT OF THESE JOBS IS $34.2 MILLION IN DIRECT INCOME, 244 ADDITIONAL INDIRECT JOBS, AND $128.4 MILLION IN SALES AND OUTPUT.
INVESTOR RELATIONS: GPI CONTINUED TO DEVELOP AND EXECUTE A STRATEGY THAT TARGETS AND GARNERS NEW INVESTORS, AS WELL AS STRATEGICALLY ENGAGING EXSISTING INVESTORS AND REGIONAL STAKEHOLDERS TO SUSTAIN ORGANIZATIONAL VIABILITY AND RELEVANCY THROUGH THE FOLLOWING:CONDUCTS REGULAR OUTREACH TO INVESTORS AND STAKEHOLDERS THROUGH COMMUNICATIONS, MEETINGS AND EVENTS TO INCREASE THE VISIBILITY OF GPI IN THE COMMUNITY, SHARE GPI INFORMATION AND BETTER UNDERSTAND STAKEHOLDER INTERESTS AND NEEDS RELATIVE TO REGIONAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. GPI'S AMBASSADOR PROGRAM HOSTS EVENTS WHERE EMERGING LEADERS LEARN ABOUT REGIONAL ASSETS, COLLECTIVE AND INDIVIDUAL STRENGTHS OF COMPANIES AND INSTITUTIONS, SUCCESSES AND CHALLENGES IN GROWING THE ECONOMY AND BUILD AN OVERALL UNDERSTANDING OF HOW PUBLIC AND PRIVATE ENTITIES WORK TOGETHER TO STRENGTHEN OUR REGION. THIS ENSURES THAT GPI'S AMBASSADORS ARE EDUCATED THOUGHT-LEADERS WHO UNDERSTAND THE INTRICACIES OF REGIONAL ECONOMIC ISSUES AND OUR DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES. IN 2021, GPI HOSTED 4 AMBASSADOR EVENTS, INCLUDING THE GREATER PORTLAND ECONOMIC SUMMIT, WHICH FOCUSED ON THE ROLE OF THE PRIVATE SECTOR IN OUR REGION'S RECOVERY. 200 COMMUNITY LEADERS ATTENDED THIS EVENT.
REGIONAL STRATEGY:GPI MANAGED THE REGION'S FIVE-YEAR COMPREHENSIVE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY (CEDS) FOR 2022-2027. 250 INDIVIDUALS REPRESENTING 100+ ORGANIZATIONS CONTRIBUTED TO THE CEDS. GPI WILL SERVE A LEADERSHIP ROLE IN 9 OF THE 44 RECOMMENDATIONS.
