SUPPORT FOR EMERGENCY FOOD DISTRIBUTION - WHILE COMMON THREADS PRIMARY FOCUS IS ON FOOD EDUCATION, WE WERE NONETHELESS HAPPY TO DEPLOY OUR ENERGETIC, CARING TEAM OF FOOD EDUCATORS TO SUPPORT SCHOOL DISTRICT AND FOOD BANK LED EFFORTS TO DISTRIBUTE EMERGENCY FOOD TO YOUTH AND FAMILIES IN NEED THROUGHOUT THE COVID PANDEMIC.


COMMUNITY BASED FOOD EDUCATION - WHILE SCHOOLS ARE A GREAT PLACE TO CONNECT WITH KIDS, COMMON THREADS ALSO FOCUSES ON BRINGING GARDENING, COOKING AND EATING PROGRAMS TO LOW INCOME OR OTHERWISE VULNERABLE CHILDREN DURING THEIR OUT OF SCHOOL HOURS. IN 2021, COMMON THREADS SUPPORTED TWO COMMUNITY BASED LEARNING GARDENS AND PROVIDED AFTER SCHOOL AND SUMMER MEALS FOR YOUTH LIVING IN AFFORDABLE HOUSING COMPLEXES, IN REMOTE RURAL AREAS, AND IN MIGRANT FARM WORKER CAMPS.


SCHOOL BASED FOOD EDUCATION - ENGAGED YOUTH IN SCHOOL GARDENING AT TWENTY FOUR PARTNER ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOLS. PARTICULARLY DURING THE COVID 19 PANDEMIC, OUR ABILITY TO PROVIDE SAFE OUTDOOR LEARNING TIME IN THE COMPANY OF PEERS AND CARING ADULTS NOT ONLY ENGAGED YOUTH IN ENVIRONMENTAL AND NUTRITION EDUCATION BUT ALSO PROVIDED THEM WITH A SENSE OF SOLACE, SUPPORT AND COMMUNITY.
