SUPPORTED SERVICES DEPARTMENT; PROVIDES DAY HABILITATION, SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT, AND SUPPORTED LIVING FOR PERSONS WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES. ABOUT 45 PEOPLE WERE SERVED DURING THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2017.
EDUCATION DEPARTMENT: THE FOLLOWING SERVICES ARE INCLUDED IN THIS DEPARTMENT. SERVICES FUNDED BY THE ALASKA DEPARTMENT OF LABOR SUCH AS ADULT BASIC EDUCATION, MATURE ALASKANS SEEKING SKILLS TRAINING, AND WORKFORCE INNOVATION AND OPPORTUNITY YOUTH SERVICES. ALL PROGRAMS PROVIDE PARTICIPANTS WITH PREPARATION, TUTORING, AND SKILL DEVELOPMENT TO PREPARE THE PARTICIPANTS TO ENTER THE CAREER PATHWAY OF THEIR CHOICE. PARTICIPANTS ARE FROM THE INTERIOR OF ALASKA AND THE KENAI PENINSULA.
MUSHERS CAFE: ADULT LEARNING PROGRAMS OF ALASKA, INC. (ALPA) OFFERS SERVICES TO MANY GROUPS OF CLIENTS THAT SUPPORT THE NEEDS OF THE CLIENTS IN GAINING SKILLS THAT WILL ALLOW THEM TO GET AND KEEP EMPLOYMENT. TO FURTHER THE END RESULT OF FINDING PEOPLE EMPLOYMENT, ALPA OPENED ITS FIRST "SKILL INCUBATOR", MUSHERS CAFE, IN THE SPRING OF 2016. THE CAFE IS A FULL SERVICE BREAKFAST/LUNCH/COFFEE RESTAURANT THAT HAS TWELVE TRAINING SLOTS FOR CLIENTS TO LEARN CULINARY SKILLS IN THEIR PURSUIT OF EMPLOYMENT. THIS "SKILL INCUBATOR" IS FUNDED THROUGH DOLLARS EARNED BY SALES OF FOOD/DRINKS AND THROUGH THE GENERATION OF MEDICAID AND STATE OF ALASKA DEPARTMENT OF VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION FEES FROM SERVICES OFFERED.
