CHILD LIFE - OUR CERTIFIED CHILD LIFE SPECIALISTS ARE EDUCATED AND CLINICALLY TRAINED IN THE DEVELOPMENTAL IMPACT OF ILLNESS, INJURY AND TRAUMA. THEY CHILD LIFE EMPLOY A VARIETY OF THERAPEUTIC METHODS TO HELP CHILDREN AND FAMILIES COPE, ADAPT, LEARN AND DEVELOP WITH AND THROUGH THEIR HEALTH CARE AND LIFE EXPERIENCES. THROUGHOUT THE PEDIATRIC SERVICES, OUR CHILD LIFE SPECIALISTS PROVIDE DEVELOPMENTALLY AND PSYCHOLOGICALLY APPROPRIATE, FAMILY-CENTERED INTERVENTIONS INCLUDING THERAPEUTIC PLAY, PREPARATION FOR PROCEDURES, AND EDUCATION TO REDUCE FEAR, ANXIETY, AND PAIN.
CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PSYCHIATRY (C&AP) - C&AP CONTINUED THE DEVELOPMENT OF IMPLEMENTATION OF INNOVATIVE TREATMENT PROTOCOLS. IN 2020, C&AP REMAINED ONE OF THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE SERVICE SYSTEMS FOR CHILD MENTAL HEALTH IN THE U.S. AND THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE IN NEW YORK CITY DEPITE THE CHALLENGING ENVIRONMENT DUE TO NURSING SHORTAGES. THE CHILDREN'S COMPREHENSIVE PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY PROGRAM (C-PEP) IS THE ONLY ONE IN NEW YORK STATE. THE NEED FOR SERVICES CONTINUES TO OUT PACE AVAILABILITY. KE THE CENTER UNIQUE AMONG HOSPITAL-BASED CHILD ABUSE PROGRAMS.
REACH OUT AND READ - REACH OUT AND READ IS A NATIONAL, EVIDENCE-BASED INITIATIVE THAT PROMOTES EARLY LITERACY AND SCHOOL READINESS BY GIVING BOOKS TO CHILDREN AT REGULAR CHECKUPS STARTING AT BIRTH. PARENTS ALSO RECEIVE ADVICE FROM THEIR NURSE PRACTITIONER OR DOCTOR ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF HAVING DAILY, MEANINGFUL, LANGUAGE-RICH INTERACTIONS WITH THEIR CHILDREN. CHILDREN OF BELLEVUE'S REACH OUT AND READ WAS THE FIRST OF ITS KIND IN NEW YORK AND HAS DISTRIBUTED MORE THAN ONE QUARTER MILLION BOOKS SINCE ITS INCEPTION.
