FAMILY HOUSE, INC. WAS FOUNDED AND OPERATES TO PROVIDE AFFORDABLE, OVERNIGHT, TEMPORARY HOUSING FOR PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES WHILE THEY SEEK MEDICAL CARE. FAMILY HOUSE, INC. ALSO PROVIDES TEMPORARY HOUSING FOR VISITING PHYSICIANS, NURSES, AND MEDICAL STUDENTS INVOLVED IN THE PROVISION OF MEDICAL CARE AND SERVICES IN THE GREATER COMMUNITY.

ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEWSINCE 1983, FAMILY HOUSE HAS PROVIDED AN AFFORDABLE AND COMFORTABLE "HOME AWAY FROM HOME" FOR PATIENTS AND THEIR CAREGIVERS WHO TRAVEL TO PITTSBURGH FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT WITHIN ANY OF THE REGION'S WORLD-CLASS HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS - ALLEGHENY HEALTH NETWORK, THE VA PITTSBURGH HEALTHCARE SYSTEM, OR UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH MEDICAL CENTER. FISCAL YEAR 2023 WAS A TRANSFORMATIONAL ONE AS IT SAW THE CONSOLIDATION OF ALL FAMILY HOUSE FACILITIES AND ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES INTO THE FORMER SHADYSIDE COURTYARD BY MARRIOTT PROPERTY LOCATED AT 5308 LIBERTY AVENUE, ALLOWING THE ORGANIZATION TO CONTINUE FULFILLING ITS MISSION LONG INTO THE FUTURE. THE NEW 121-ROOM FACILITY ALLOWED FAMILY HOUSE TO PROVIDE SAFE AND AFFORDABLE ACCOMMODATIONS TO OVER 19,000 PEOPLE FOR OVER 34,000 ROOM NIGHTS. GUESTS WHO STAYED AT FAMILY HOUSE DURING FY23 WERE FROM 47 STATES AND 11 DIFFERENT COUNTRIES; 52% WERE PENNSYLVANIA RESIDENTS.PROGRAMS:-FAMILY HOUSE'S CHARITABLE CARE COMMITMENT HELPS TO ENSURE THAT ROOM RATES CHARGED TO GUESTS ARE APPROXIMATELY 75% OF THE TOTAL COST INCURRED BY THE ORGANIZATION TO OPERATE THEM. IN ADDITION TO ITS DEEPLY DISCOUNTED RATES, FAMILY HOUSE ALSO OFFERS: -FAMILY ASSISTANCE FUNDING. RECOGNIZING THAT SUDDEN AND TRAUMATIC MEDICAL DIAGNOSIS CAN DEVASTATE A FAMILY'S FINANCIAL RESOURCES, FAMILY HOUSE PROVIDES FURTHER RATE REDUCTIONS FOR THOSE GUESTS BASED ON FINANCIAL NEED AND LENGTH OF STAY. FAMILY ASSISTANCE MAY ALSO BE EXTENDED TO PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR TRANSPORTATION, CLOTHING, AS WELL AS OTHER IMMEDIATE NEEDS.-HEALTHY BREAKFAST PROGRAM. SEVEN DAYS PER WEEK, FAMILY HOUSE PROVIDES A COMPLIMENTARY HEALTHY BREAKFAST FOR ALL GUESTS.-FOOD PANTRY. FAMILY HOUSE KITCHEN INCLUDES A PANTRY STOCKED WITH A WIDE ASSORTMENT OF FOOD ITEMS AVAILABLE 24/7. THIS AMENITY IS FREQUENTLY USED WHEN GUESTS ARRIVE LATE AT NIGHT, WHEN STORES AND RESTAURANTS ARE CLOSED, SO THEY DON'T HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THE FOLLOWING MORNING TO EAT. THIS RESOURCE IS ALSO USED BY GUESTS WITH FOOD INSECURITIES WHO CANNOT AFFORD A MEAL OUT.-VOLUNTEER MEAL PROGRAM. EACH YEAR, HUNDREDS OF VOLUNTEERS COME TO FAMILY HOUSE TO PREPARE MEALS AND SERVE TO OUR GUESTS. FROM COLLEGE STUDENTS TO RETIREES, CORPORATIONS, TO FAITH-BASED GROUPS, FAMILY HOUSE ANNUALLY WELCOMES VOLUNTEER GROUPS EVERY WEEK WHO PROVIDE GUESTS TO A COMPLIMENTARY HOT MEAL. -AND MORE. FAMILY HOUSE ALSO HOSTS VISITS BY THERAPY DOGS AS WELL AS BY MUSICIANS, SUCH AS PIANISTS AND ACOUSTIC GUITARISTS. AND FAMILY HOUSE PARTNERS WITH CARNEGIE MUSEUMS OF PITTSBURGH, THE PITTSBURGH ZOO & PPG AQUARIUM, PHIPPS CONSERVATORY, THE CHILDREN'S MUSEUM, AND OTHER CULTURAL AND ENTERTAINMENT VENUES TO PROVIDE COMPLIMENTARY ADMISSION PASSES FOR ITS GUESTS.
