VOCATIONAL PROGRAMS - ABILITIES INC PROVIDES EVALUATION, TRAINING, PLACEMENT AND JOB COACHING SERVICES. EVALUATION PARTICIPANTS ARE EVALUATED TO DETERMINE THE TYPES OF SERVICES NEEDED TO ENHANCE OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE OR TO ASSIST THE PARTICIPANT TO ACQUIRE SPECIFIC SKILLS AND ABILITIES. TRAINING GETS PARTICIPANTS READY FOR THE CORPORATE WORLD BY PREPARING FOR A VARIETY OF POSITIONS IN A MODERN OFFICE SETTING. PLACEMENT SPECIALISTS ASSIST IN EXPLORING JOB OPPORTUNITIES IN MANY INDUSTRIES. THEY HELP PARTICIPANTS SET EMPLOYMENT GOALS, DEVELOP A RESUME, EMBARK ON A JOB SEARCH, COMPLETE JOB APPLICATIONS AND IMPROVE INTERVIEWING SKILLS. JOB COACHING PROVIDES SUPPORT AT THE WORK SITE TO HELP PARTICIPANTS FULLY LEARN THEIR JOBS, UNDERSTAND THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES AND BE SUCCESSFUL AT WORK. DURING THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS, ABILITIES EMBARKED ON NEW EMPLOYMENT SERVICES FOR VETERANS BASED IN NYC. THE PROGRAM HELPS VETERANS OF ANY SERVICE STATUS AND PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE MATCH JOB SKILLS WITH CURRENT LABOR MARKET NEEDS, IMPROVE INTERVIEW TECHNIQUES AND DEVELOP SOLID RESUMES WITH THE GOAL OF SECURING EMPLOYMENT.
TRANSITIONAL SERVICES - ASSIST HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES ACHIEVE POSITIVE TRANSITION OUTCOMES OF COMMUNITY INTEGRATION WITHIN THE ADULT WORLD. STUDENTS RECEIVE COUNSELING SERVICES THAT FOCUS SPECIFICALLY ON CAREER DEVELOPMENT, EMPLOYMENT PREPARATION, INDEPENDENCE AND INTEGRATION IN THE WORK PLACE AND COMMUNITY. ABILITIES PROPER PROGRAM FOCUSES ON IMPROVING ATTENDANCE AND SELF-ESTEEM WITH AT-RISK HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS AND SENIORS. THROUGH COOPERATIVE LEARNING AND CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT VIA PUBLIC SPEAKING EXERCISES AND INDIVIDUAL/TEAM PROJECTS, THE PROGRAM ENCOURAGES STUDENTS TO LEARN TO WORK INDEPENDENTLY AND COLLECTIVELY TO EXPLORE REAL WORLD OBSTACLES AND CHALLENGES. CORPORATE PARTNERS HOST VOCATIONAL TOURS IN THEIR BUSINESS ENVIRONMENTS AND INFORM STUDENTS OF JOB REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES.
COMMUNITY INTEGRATION PROGRAMS - INCLUDE DAY HABILITATION SERVICES, RESPITE AND RECREATION PROGRAMS AND BENEFITS COUNSELING FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES, AS WELL AS THEIR FAMILIES. THE GROUP DAY HABILITATION PROGRAM PROVIDES ASSISTANCE WITH ACQUISITION, RETENTION OR IMPROVEMENT OF SELF-HELP, SOCIALIZATION AND ADAPTIVE SKILLS. THE TOWN OF NORTH HEMPSTEAD SATURDAY AND SUMMER RESPITE AND RECREATION PROGRAMS GIVE PARTICIPANTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO SOCIALIZE WITH THEIR PEERS AND EXPLORE THEIR COMMUNITIES THROUGH A RANGE OF SOCIAL, EDUCATIONAL AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES.
