MANAGING AN URBAN COMMUNITY FARM ACCORDING TO ORGANIC STANDARDS, RUNNING A HUNGER RELEAF FOOD ACCESS PROGRAM, EDUCATING YOUTH AND ADULTS ABOUT SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE AND PROMOTING RESPONSIBLE LAND MANAGEMENT.

2023 COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE PROGRAM (GROWN USING ORGANIC PRINCIPLES AND METHODS) SUMMER CSA SHARES: 165 20-WEEK + 112 10-WEEK + 19 SUBSIDIZED + 30 PRODUCE RX + 22 STAFF AND WORK SHARES + 1 SPROUT FUNDRAISER = 349 TOTAL SHARES DISTRIBUTED; EXTENDED SEASON CSA SHARES: 114 FULL + 8 SUBSIDIZED + 9 STAFF AND WORK SHARES = 131 TOTAL SHARES DISTRIBUTED. FRUIT CSA SHARES: 148. MUSHROOM CSA SHARES: 104. *WFCF EXPERIENCED AN IMPACTFUL LOSS OF ACCESS TO 33% OF ITS PREVIOUSLY CULTIVATED FARMLAND (AND THUS REDUCED CSA SHARES OFFERED TO THE COMMUNITY) DUE TO THE CITY OF WALTHAM'S PROCESS FOR REMEDIATING A PORTION OF LAND AT THE REAR OF ITS PROPERTY. THIS CITY REQUIRED ACCESS THROUGH WFCF'S FARM ROADS WHICH LAY ADJACENT TO OUR GROWING AREAS.


WFCF'S 2023 HANDS-ON SERVICE LEARNING/VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH AND ADULTS CONNECTED VOLUNTEERISM TO SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE FOR 784 INDIVIDUALS AND 23 GROUPS IN 2023 (2,200 HOURS TOTAL). WFCF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS PROVIDED PLACE-BASED PROGRAMING FOR CHILDREN FROM THE GREATER BOSTON REGION, INCLUDING ENRICHMENT PARTNERSHIPS WITH THE WALTHAM PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN 2023: 1,782 YOUTH WERE ENGAGED IN PROGRAMMING AND ADULT & FAMILY WORKSHOPS SERVED 179 PEOPLE.


VALUE OF PRODUCE FOR FOOD INSECURITY PROGRAMS IN 2023 WAS $102,733 (37,895 POUNDS). FOOD ACCESS AND SOCIAL SERVICE PARTNERS INCLUDED: FOOD FOR FREE, HEALTHY WALTHAM, WALTHAM FAMILY SCHOOL, WALTHAM HOUSING AUTHORITY, CHARLES RIVER COMMUNITY HEALTH, CHESTERBROOK COMMUNITY FOUNDATION, PROSPECT TERRACE HOUSING, WALTHAM FAMILY SCHOOL, WALTHAM SCHOOL NUTRITION K-12, AS WELL AS CLOTHING DONATIONS COLLECTED FOR CHAPLAINS ON THE WAY AND FOOD NOT BOMBS WALTHAM.
