TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR PEOPLE WITH DEVELOPMENT AND OTHER DISABILITIES THROUGH EDUCATIONAL, VOCATIONAL, AND SKILL TRAINING AS WELL AS EMPLOYMENT AND RESIDENTIAL OPPORTUNITIES.

SINCE 1954, THE ARC OF HILO HAS WORKED TO EMPOWER PEOPLE WITH DEVELOPMENTAL, INTELLECTUAL, AND PHYSICAL DISABILITIES TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL THROUGH OUR EDUCATIONAL, VOCATIONAL, AND RESIDENTIAL OPPORTUNITIES. OUR LARGEST PROGRAM IS OUR COMMERCIAL SERVICES WHICH PROVIDES HANDS-ON VOCATIONAL TRAINING IN THE AREAS OF LAUNDRY, JANITORIAL, LANDSCAPE, AND HOSPITALITY AND EVENT SERVICES. AS A SOCIAL ENTERPRISE, THE ARC HIRES INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES TO PROVIDE THESE SERVICES TO THE HAWAII ISLAND COMMUNITY; WE MAINTAIN OVER 100 COMMUNITY CONTRACTS, WITH CUSTOMERS INCLUDING COUNTY, FEDERAL, CORPORATE AND PRIVATE RESIDENTS.


THE ARC'S COMMUNITY SUPPORT SERVICES OFFERS EDUCATIONAL AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES THROUGH OUR ADULT DAY HEALTH AND PERSONAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM, SERVING 22 INDIVIDUALS. WE WORK WITH PARTICIPANTS TO HELP THEM MEET THEIR INDIVIDUAL GOALS. WE PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION TO THE PROGRAM FROM THE PARTICIPANT'S HOME, IF OTHER OPTIONS ARE NOT AVAILABLE, AND PROVIDE SNACKS AND LUNCH FREE OF CHARGE.


THE ARC'S RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM OFFERS SUBSIDIZED HOUSING TO OVER 50 INDIVIDUALS IN A PROTECTED ENVIRONMENT FOR DISABLED AND ELDERLY INDIVIDUALS.
