SINCE 1954 THE ARC OF HILO HAS WORKED TO EMPOWER PEOPLE WITH DEVELOPMENTAL, INTELLECTUAL, AND PHYSICAL DISABILITIES TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL THROUGH OUR EDUCATIONAL, VOCATIONAL, AND RESIDENTIAL OPPORTUNITIES. THE ARC'S COMMERCIAL SERVICES PROGRAMS PROVIDE HANDS-ON VOCATIONAL TRAINING IN THE AREAS OF LAUNDRY, JANITORIAL, GROUNDS KEEPING, AND CONFERENCE/HOSPITALITY SERVICES. AS A JOB CREATOR, THE ARC HIRES DISABLED INDIVIDUALS TO PROVIDE THESE SAME SERVICES TO THE HAWAII ISLAND COMMUNITY; WE MAINTAIN 85 FEDERAL, COUNTY, STATE, AND PRIVATE BUSINESS SERVICE CONTRACTS. THE ARC'S COMMUNITY SUPPORTS AND SERVICES PROGRAMS OFFERS EDUCATIONAL AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES THROUGH OUR ADULT DAY HEALTH AND PERSONAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS TO 22 INDIVIDUALS. WE WORK WITH PARTICIPANTS TO HELP THEM MEET THEIR INDIVIDUAL GOALS. WE PROVIDE ROUND-TRIP TRANSPORTATION FROM THE PARTICIPANTS' HOME TO THE PROGRAM, SNACKS, AND LUNCH FREE OF CHARGE. THE ARC'S RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM PROVIDES 50 INDEPENDENT LIVING UNITS IN A PROTECTED ENVIRONMENT FOR DISABLED AND ELDERLY INDIVIDUALS.
