CENTER FOR HEALTH CARE RIGHTS PROVIDES FREE EDUCATION, COUNSELING, INFORMAL ADVOCACY AND LEGAL SERVICES TO MEDICARE BENEFICIARIES TO EMPOWER CONSUMERS WHO ARE OLDER ADULTS AND/OR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AND THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS TO USE MEDICARE, MEDI-CAL AND OTHER HEALTH BENEFITS EFFECTIVELY, MAKE INFORMED HEALTH CARE CHOICES, AND TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION TO RESOLVE THEIR HEALTH CARE PROBLEMS.

CENTER FOR HEALTH CARE RIGHTS CONTRACTS WITH THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES DEPARTMENT OF AGING AND LOS ANGELES COUNTY WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT, AGING AND COMMUNITY SERVICES TO PROVIDE HEALTH INSURANCE COUNSELING AND ADVOCACY PROGRAM (HICAP) SERVICES TO RESIDENTS OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY. THESE SERVICES INCLUDE FREE EDUCATION, COUNSELING, INFORMAL ADVOCACY AND LEGAL SERVICES TO MEDICARE BENEFICIARIES AND THOSE SOON TO BE ENROLLED IN MEDICARE. IN 2020-2021, OUR STAFF AND VOLUNTEER COUNSELORS PROVIDED DIRECT SERVICES TO 6,749 INDIVIDUALS AND MADE 98 EDUCATIONAL PRESENTATIONS TO 3,141 INDIVIDUALS.
