SUMMIT: ORGANIZED AND HOSTED THE 11TH ANNUAL CALIFORNIA BREASTFEEDING SUMMIT. THE SUMMIT IS AN ANNUAL CATALYST FOR ACTION, EMPOWERING ATTENDEES TO ADDRESS THE STRUCTURAL AND INSTITUTIONAL RACISM AND INEQUITIES OF BREASTFEEDING AND LACTATION CARE AND SUPPORT THAT PREVENT FAMILIES FROM MEETING THEIR BREASTFEEDING AND LACTATION GOALS. 479 PEOPLE ATTENDED AND 100% SAID THAT THEY AGREE AND STRONGLY AGREE THAT THE SUMMIT OBJECTIVES WERE MET.
HELD AN ADVOCACY DAY WITH 80 BREASTFEEDING ADVOCATES TO EDUCATE THEIR STATE LEGISLATIVE REPRESENTATIVES ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF PAID FAMILY LEAVE. PRODUCED A SHARED-DECISION-MAKING TOOL FOR PROVIDERS AND PATIENTS TO USE IN MAKING INFORMED HEALTH-CARE DECISIONS REGARDING BREASTFEEDING DURING COVID-19. PRODUCED AND RELEASED A NEW BRIEF, LACTATION SUPPORT FOR LOW-WAGE WORKERS IN COLLABORATION WITH THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH AND THE CALIFORNIA WIC ASSOCIATION. THIS REPORT HIGHLIGHTS THE LACK OF SUPPORTIVE WORKPLACES FOR PEOPLE IN LOW-WAGE JOBS, LOW HOUSEHOLD INCOMES, AND FOR WHOM ENGLISH IS NOT THEIR PRIMARY LANGUAGE.
