SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER SERVICES - THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES SPECIALIZED ASSISTANCE TO INDIVIDUALS WITH HEARING IMPAIRMENTS IN ORDER TO FACILITATE EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION. A REGISTRY OF QUALIFIED SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETERS IS MAINTAINED FOR REFERRAL IN SITUATIONS SUCH AS DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENTS, EMPLOYMENT INTERVIEWS, PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES, AND ON-THE-JOB TRAINING. THIS SERVICE MAY ALSO BE ACCESSED BY PUBLIC AND PRIVATE AGENCIES, BUSINESSES, SCHOOLS, AND OTHER COMMUNITY ENTITIES THAT NEED A MECHANISM FOR INTERACTING WITH INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE HEARING IMPAIRED. A 24-HOUR ON-CALL INTERPRETER SERVICE IS ALSO MAINTAINED FOR USE IN MEDICAL OR LAW ENFORCEMENT SITUATIONS. WE SERVED 20 CLIENTS IN THE CURRENT YEAR. THERE WAS 1 EMPLOYEE DURING THE YEAR AND 1 EMPLOYEE AT YEAR END. THIS PROGRAM WAS CLOSED IN MAY 2021.
INDEPENDENT LIVING - WE PROVIDE VARIOUS TYPES OF SERVICES TO THE INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES TO ASSIST THEM IN BECOMING INDEPENDENT IN THE COMMUNITY. THE FOLLOWING PROGRAMS AND SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE: AGING WITH VISION LOSS, BENEFIT COUNSELING, TRANSITION SERVICES, HOUSING PROGRAM, INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS TRAINING, ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY, INFORMATION AND REFERRAL, PEER SUPPORT, CUSTOMIZED TRIP PLANNING ASSISTANCE AND INDIVIDUALIZED TRAVEL TRAINING, ORIENTATION AND MOBILITY, ADAPTIVE DIABETIC EQUIPMENT TRAINING, COMPUTER TRAINING, AND MOBILITY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM. WE SERVED 1,640 CLIENTS IN THE CURENT YEAR, FOR TOTAL SERVICES OF 7,346 41 EMPLOYEES AT YEAR END.
