INDEPENDENT LIVING RESOURCE CENTER INC (ILRC) IS A CALIFORNIA NONPROFIT CORPORATION ORGANIZED BY AND FOR PERSONS WITH PHYSICAL AND SENSORY DISABILITIES WHO RESIDE IN VENTURA, SANTA BARBARA, AND SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTIES IN THE CENTRAL COAST AREA OF CALIFORNIA. ILRC'S MISSION IS TO PROMOTE FULL ACCESS, EQUAL OPPORTUNITY, MAXIMUM SUCCESS, AND SELF- SUFFICIENCY FOR ALL PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES. ILRC IS CONSUMER DRIVEN AND CONSUMER LEAD, MEANING THAT THE MAJORITY OF ITS BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND STAFF HAVE DISABILITIES THEMSELVES.

THE INDEPENDENT LIVING PROGRAM SUPPORTS CONSUMERS IN THEIR EFFORTS TO LIVE AS INDEPENDENTLY AS POSSIBLE, AND TO ACHIEVE THE OPTIMAL LEVEL OF INDEPENDENCE, WHILE ELIMINATING BARRIERS WHICH PREVENT FULL PARTICIPATION IN THE COMMUNITY. ILRC TRAINS CONSUMERS IN SELF-ADVOCACY, AND IN THE TOOLS THAT MAKE COMMUNITY LIVING POSSIBLE. ILRC ADVOCATES FOR THE DISABILITY COMMUNITY AND LEADS EFFORTS TO INFLUENCE PUBLIC POLICY FOR FULL ACCESS TO THE SAME PLACES, ACTIVITIES AND OPPORTUNITIES THAT ALL CALIFORNIANS ENJOY. ILRC'S PROGRAM IS SUPPORTED BY FEDERAL FUNDING MANDATED BY THE REHABILITATION ACT OF 1973, IN THE FORM OF TITLE VII C GRANTS BOTH DIRECTLY FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND MONITORED THROUGH THE CALIFORNIA STATE DEPARTMENT OF REHABILITATION. ON OCCASION, ILRC ALSO RECEIVES TITLE VII B GRANTS WHICH FOCUS ON SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES AND/OR ETHNIC GROUPS OR DISABILITY POPULATIONS THAT ARE IDENTIFIED IN THE STATE PLAN FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING (SPIL). TITLE VII B GRANTS ARE ALSO ADMINISTERED BY THE CALIFORNIA STATE DEPARTMENT OF REHABILITATION.
