THE ASSOCIATION IS AFFILIATED WITH THE AFL-CIO WHICH HELPED ALL 344 ACTIVE MEMBERS AND THOSE AGENCY FEE PAYERS EXPAND OUR COMMUNICATION WITH THE COMMUNITY. A PORTION OF THE PARENTS OF OUR STUDENTS BELONG TO A DIVERSE GROUP OF LABOR UNIONS UNDER THE UMBRELLA OF THE COUNTY FEDERATION OF LABOR, LOS ANGELES. AS MEMBERS OF THIS BODY, WE EXPRESS OUR SOLIDARITY WITH THE PARENTS & COMMUNITY MEMBERS OF OUR STUDENTS.IN FISCAL YEAR ENDED 8/31/2023, MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS WERE AS FOLLOWS:1) ALL BARGAINING UNIT MEMBERS (INCLUDING NON-ASSOCIATION MEMBERS) RECEIVED A 4% ON-SCHEDULE SALARY INCREASE AS A RESULT OF PREVIOUS NEGOTIATIONS, WHICH WENT INTO EFFECT JULY 1, 2023. 2) SECONDARY EDUCATORS WERE ADDED TO THE BARGAINING TEAM. THESE NEWLY APPOINTED TEAM MEMBERS HAVE RECEIVED VALUABLE TRAINING ON THE NEGOTIATIONS PROCESS, ALLOWING THEM TO MORE EFFECTIVELY COMMUNICATE THE PROCESS TO FELLOW COLLEAGUES WHO ARE UNAWARE OF THE LEGAL PROCESS WITH CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS. THEY HAVE ALSO HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO PROVIDE MORE INCLUSIVE LANGUAGE CONSIDERATIONS FOR THE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT BASED ON THE NEEDS OF SECONDARY EDUCATORS.
