SUPPORT FOR JUNEAU AS A GREAT CITY INCLUDES THE CHOOSE JUNEAU CAMPAIGN WHICH PROVIDES LOCAL COMMUNITY, ECONOMIC, CULTURAL AND OTHER INFORMATION USEFUL FOR EMPLOYEE RECRUITMENT AND FOR OTHERS MOVING TO JUNEAU. THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES ADMINISTRATIVE AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT SUPPORT FOR THE JUNEAU DOWNTOWN BUSINESS ASSOCIATION.
DEVELOPING REGIONAL INDUSTRIES INCLUDES IMPLEMENTATION OF LOCAL AND REGIONAL INDUSTRY CLUSTER BASED INITIATIVES THAT ENHANCE THE COMPETITIVENESS OF AND DEVELOP OPPORTUNITIES FOR GROWTH WITHIN THE FOLLOWING MATURE AND EMERGING INDUSTRY SECTORS: VISITOR PRODUCTS; OCEAN PRODUCTS; RENEWABLE ENERGY; RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT; MINING SUPPLY; MARITIME; AND THE ARTS. EACH CLUSTER HAS DEVELOPED A SET OF INITIATIVES WHICH RANGE FROM PUBLIC POLICY DEVELOPMENT TO ENTREPRENEURIAL SUPPORT TO COMMUNITY EVENTS SUCH AS THE JUNEAU MARITIME FESTIVAL AND DEMONSTRATION PROJECT SUCH AS INSTALLATION OF ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATIONS.
TALENT (WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT) IS FOCUSED ON K-12 EDUCATION PROGRAMMING, PRIMARILY FOCUSED ON EXTRACURRICULAR STEM ENRICHMENT PROGRAMMING INCLUDING THE FIRST ROBOTICS COMPETITION, SUMMER SCIENCE CAMP, AFTERSCHOOL STEM HANDS-ON WORKSHOPS AND ACTIVITIES, TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOCUSED ON ENGINEERING CURRICULUM BUT ALSO THROUGH FACILITATION OF SCHOOL BASED JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT PROGRAMS
OTHER PROGRAMS INCLUDE SUPPORT FOR SMALL BUSINESS AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND DELIVERY OF CORE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AS A RESULT OF COVID-19 CARES FUNDS WERE AVAILABLE TO THE CITY AND BOROUGH OF JUNEAU FOR SMALL BUSINESS GRANTS. THE JEDC PROCESSED AND DISBURSED GRANT FUNDS TO SMALL BUSINESS USING A SUBRECIPIENT AWARD FROM THE CITY AND BOROUGH OF JUNEAU. REVENUE ALSO INCLUDES FEES EARNED FROM PROCESSING ALASKA CARES FUNDING FOR THE STATE OF ALASKA THROUGH THE ALASKA INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AND EXPORT AUTHORITY.
