ACL IS AN ORGANIZATION OF BAY AREA CHILDREN'S LIBRARIANS WHO MEET MONTHLY TO REVIEW NEW CHILDREN'S BOOKS, AND DISCUSS ITEMS RELATED TO THE PROFESSION OF A CHILDREN'S LIBRARIAN. THE BOOK REVIEWS ARE COMPILED AND PUBLISHED EACH MONTH AND SENT TO MEMBERS TO AID IN THEIR SELECTION OF MATERIALS FOR THEIR INDIVIDUAL LIBRARY SYSTEMS. A YEARLY INSTITUTE IS HELD WHICH FOCUSES ON A SUBJECT AREA OR THEME IN RELATIONSHIP TO CHILDREN'S BOOKS OR LIBRARY SERVICES. IN THE 2018 TAX YEAR, THE TOPIC WAS ON GENDER AND GENDER BIAS IN CHILDREN'S LITERATURE. AUTHORS AND PUBLISHERS WERE INVITED TO SPEAK ON THE SUBJECT, AND A BIBLIOGRAPHY OF RELEVANT TITLES WAS GENERATED. APPROXIMATELY 75 PEOPLE ATTENDED THIS EVENT. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO HOSTS A YEARS PERFORMER'S SHOWCASE IN WHICH WE INVITE LOCAL PERFORMERS (MAGICIANS, STORYTELLERS, MUSICIANS, PUPPETEERS, ETC.) TO BRIEFLY PERFORM FOR A GROUP OF LIBRARIANS WHO CAN THEN CHOOSE TO BOOK THEM FOR THEIR INDIVIDUAL LIBRARY LOCATIONS.
