Part 3 - Line 4a
THRIFT STORE: OPERATED BY VOLUNTEERS, THE THRIFT STORE IS OPEN THREE DAYS A WEEK, AND PROVIDES THE ONLY CLOTHING STORE IN EASTERN SIERRA COUNTY. MATERIALS ARE DONATED BY COMMUNITY MEMBERS, AND RESIDENTS SHOP THE STORE TO FIND TREASURES AND TRINKETS. IT PROVIDES VOUCHERS FOR THOSE IN NEED TO GET CLOTHING AND KITCHEN ITEMS, REFERRALS COMING FROM THE SCHOOL, SOCIAL SERVICES, AND THE FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER. PROCEEDS HELP THE LOYALTON SENIOR CENTER COVER COSTS OF DOING BUSINESS ALL YEAR LONG.
OUTREACH PROGRAM - SERVING LUNCHES TO SENIORS OFTEN ELICITS QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS BOTH FROM THE CLIENTS, AND ABOUT THE CLIENTS. THE OUTREACH PROGRAM OFFERS THE OPPORTUNITY TO ADDRESS THESE CONCERNS. FROM HEALTH ISSUES, TO LANDLORD DISPUTES, STAFF ADVOCATE FOR THE NEEDS OF THE SENIORS IN SIERRA COUNTY. THIS PROGRAM ALSO LENDS HOUSEHOLD MEDICAL EQUIPMENT TO LOCAL RESIDENTS (I.E., WALKERS, WHEELCHAIRS, SHOWER CHAIRS, ETC.).
TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM - SIERRA COUNTY IS ONE OF THE MOST "FRONTIER" COUNTIES IN CALIFORNIA. AS SUCH, ACCESS TO SERVICES IS AN ON-GOING CHALLENGE FOR RESIDENTS. FOR THOSE WITHOUT THEIR OWN TRANSPORTATION, OR MINIMALLY RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION, IT CAN BE A BARRIER TO CONTINUED RESIDENCY IN THIS AREA. THE TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM OFFERS RIDES TO RESIDENTS TO GROCERY SHOP, BUY SUNDRIES, MAKE IT TO DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENTS AND PHYSICAL THERAPY, PURCHASE PRESCRIPTIONS, AND BEFORE COVID-19, ATTEND SOCIAL FUNCTIONS. A FEE FOR SERVICE IS COLLECTED, BUT REPRESENTS A SMALL PORTION OF THE ACTUAL COST OF OPERATING THIS PROGRAM.
NUTRITION PROGRAM: THE NUTRITION PROGRAM SERVES SENIOR MEMBERS OF SIERRA COUNTY A NUTRITIOUS MEAL FIVE DAYS A WEEK. ISCSC WAS OPEN TO CONGREGATE DINING DURING 2022-2023. IN 2022 MANY SENIORS REMAINED FEARFUL OF CONTRACTING COVID, SO PREFERRED TO RECEIVE THEIR MEALS AT HOME. THIS WAS A GREAT SERVICE TO SENIORS AS THERE ARE NO OTHER SERVICES DELIVERING MEALS AT HOME. AS MEALS ARE DELIVERED, DRIVERS ARE ALSO CHECKING ON PARTICIPANTS TO ENSURE THEIR HEALTH AND SAFETY, AND IF THEY NEED ANY OTHER SERVICES TO MAINTAIN THEIR ABILITY TO LIVE INDEPENDENTLY.BEGINNING JULY 2023, QUALIFIED CONGREGATE SENIORS ARE/WERE REQUIRED TO RETURN TO CONGREGATE DINING ENDING THEIR HDM SERVICES.
