Part 3 - Line 4a
DURING THIS FISCAL YEAR, THE FOUNDATION AWARDED 5 GRANTS TO AGRICULTURAL TECHNOLOGY STARTUP COMPANIES FOR RESIDENCY AT THE WESTERN GROWERS CENTER FOR INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY. THESE STARTUPS FOCUS ON DEVELOPING NEW TECHNOLOGY FOR THE AGRICULTURAL FARMING INDUSTRIES.
DUE TO COVID-19 AND SCHOOL RESTRICTIONS, DURING THIS FISCAL YEAR THE FOUNDATION DID NOT AWARD GARDEN GRANTS TO ANY SCHOOLS. IN NORMAL YEARS, THE FOUNDATION GENERALLY AWARDS GRANTS TO PRE-SCHOOLS AND ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, AND CONDUCTS SEVERAL SCHOOL GARDEN VISITS ANNUALLY TO RAISE AWARENESS OF THE IMPORTANCE OF A DIET THAT INCLUDES LOTS OF FRUITS AND VEGETABLES. OUR WEBSITE TO SUPPORT THE SCHOOL GARDEN INITIATIVE IS WWW.PRODUCEPEDIA.COM. THE FOUNDATION FOCUSES ON HELPING STUDENTS LEARN MORE ABOUT THE HISTORY OF GARDENING, THE SIGNIFICANT HEALTH BENEFITS OF EATING FRUITS AND VEGETABLES AND PLANTING SCHOOL GARDENS.
