YOUTH DEVELOPMENTIN 2023, THE YMCA OF DOUGLAS COUNTY HAS CONTINUED TO BE A CORNERSTONE OF YOUTH DEVELOPMENT, NURTURING THE POTENTIAL OF OUR COMMUNITY'S YOUNG MINDS, AND FOSTERING AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE CHILDREN CAN THRIVE. OUR COMMITMENT TO PROVIDING ENRICHING AND SUPPORTIVE PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN OF ALL AGES HAS NEVER BEEN STRONGER.LICENSED CHILDCARE: OUR LICENSED CHILDCARE PROGRAMS HAVE OFFERED A SAFE AND NURTURING ENVIRONMENT FOR OVER 60 CHILDREN, PROVIDING THEM WITH THE FOUNDATION THEY NEED FOR A SUCCESSFUL FUTURE. THROUGH STRUCTURED ACTIVITIES AND DEDICATED CARE, WE ENSURE THAT EACH CHILD RECEIVES THE ATTENTION AND SUPPORT NECESSARY TO GROW AND LEARN.SWIM LESSONS: WATER SAFETY IS A CRITICAL SKILL, AND OUR SWIMMING LESSONS HAVE EMPOWERED OVER 300 CHILDREN WITH THE CONFIDENCE AND ABILITY TO ENJOY WATER ACTIVITIES SAFELY. BY TEACHING ESSENTIAL SWIMMING SKILLS, WE HELP PREVENT ACCIDENTS AND PROMOTE LIFELONG FITNESS HABITS.SPORTS PROGRAMS AND SUMMER CAMPS: OUR SPORTS PROGRAMS AND SUMMER CAMPS FOR AGES 3-12 HAVE BEEN A TREMENDOUS SUCCESS, WITH OVER 600 KIDS PARTICIPATING IN A VARIETY OF SPORTS. THESE CAMPS NOT ONLY TEACH ATHLETIC SKILLS BUT ALSO EMPHASIZE TEAMWORK, DISCIPLINE, AND HEALTHY COMPETITION, HELPING CHILDREN TO DEVELOP PHYSICALLY, SOCIALLY, AND EMOTIONALLY.YOUTH PROGRAMMING: RECOGNIZING THE IMPORTANCE OF TECHNOLOGICAL LITERACY IN TODAY'S WORLD, WE HAVE EXPANDED OUR YOUTH PROGRAMMING TO INCLUDE E-SPORTS AND CODING. THESE PROGRAMS HAVE ENGAGED HUNDREDS OF YOUNG MINDS, SPARKING INTEREST IN STEM FIELDS, AND PROVIDING VALUABLE SKILLS THAT WILL BENEFIT THEM IN THEIR FUTURE CAREERS.FREE SUMMER CAMP: THROUGH OUR INVALUABLE PARTNERSHIP WITH UMPQUA HEALTH ALLIANCE, WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO OFFER A 7-WEEK SUMMER CAMP FOR AGES 8-12, COMPLETELY FREE TO THE COMMUNITY. THIS INITIATIVE HAS MADE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT, ALLOWING 32 CHILDREN TO EXPERIENCE THE JOY AND GROWTH THAT COMES FROM CAMP ACTIVITIES, REGARDLESS OF THEIR FINANCIAL SITUATION.OUR EFFORTS IN YOUTH DEVELOPMENT ARE DRIVEN BY THE BELIEF THAT EVERY CHILD DESERVES THE OPPORTUNITY TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL. THE PROGRAMS AND PARTNERSHIPS WE HAVE CULTIVATED ARE A TESTAMENT TO OUR DEDICATION TO THIS CAUSE. FOR THE WHOLE COMMUNITY, WE OFFERED A FREE EVENT, HEALTHY KIDS DAY WHICH HAD OVER 600 PARTICIPANTS, PROVIDING GAMES, ACTIVITIES AND RESOURCES FROM OVER 25 COMMUNITY PARTNERS. THE YMCA PROVIDED FREE ZUMBA IN THE PARK ONE DAY A WEEK DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS TO ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO GET OUT OF THEIR HOMES AND BACK INTO LIFE AND MOVING.

WE OFFER FREE REDWOODS SEXUAL ABUSE PREVENTION TRAINING TO OUR STAFF. WE ARE MANDATORY REPORTERS AND WANT OUR EMPLOYEES AND VOLUNTEERS TO BE PREPARED TO ASSIST WHEN THE NEED ARISES. WE WERE INSTRUMENTAL IN THE INSTALLATION OF A TEMPERATURE SENSOR IN THE COLD NORTH UMPQUA RIVER THAT PROVIDES LIVE TEMPERATURE READINGS THAT ARE POSTED ON THE YMCA AND LOCAL MEDIA WEBSITES AND IN THE LOCAL NEWSPAPER. WE ALSO PROVIDE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO PEOPLE WHO OTHERWISE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO AFFORD TO BE A MEMBER AND PARTICIPATE IN YMCA PROGRAMS AND SERVICES. WE HAVE PARTNERED WITH OUR LOCAL CCO, UMPQUA HEALTH ALLIANCE TO PROVIDE FREE MEMBERSHIPS TO QUALIFIED MEMBERS ON THE OREGON HEALTH PLAN. THIS AGREEMENT HAS INCREASED ACCESS TO COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO CANNOT AFFORD A YMCA MEMBERSHIP.
