THE WASHINGTON BRAZIL OFFICE IS AN INDEPENDENT INSTITUTION WHICH SPECIALIZES IN THINKING ABOUT BRAZIL AND SUPPORTING ACTIONS THAT STRENGTHEN THE ROLE OF CIVIL SOCIETY AND INSTITUTIONS DEDICATED TO THE PROMOTION AND DEFENSE OF DEMOCRACY HUMAN RIGHTS FREEDOMS AND SUSTAINABLE SOCIOECONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE COUNTRY. OUR OBJECTIVE IS TO PRODUCE KNOWLEDGE AND SUPPORT THE INTERNATIONAL WORK OF ALL SECTORS THAT NEED SUPPORT ACTION BILATERAL EXCHANGES KNOWLEDGE PRODUCTION AND THE CONSTRUCTION OF COOPERATIVE RELATIONS BETWEEN BRAZIL AND THE UNITED STATES AND OR WITH INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS AND BODIES HEADQUARTERED IN THE UNITED STATES.

THERE ARE CURRENTLY OVER 40 ORGANIZATIONS FROM BRAZILIAN CIVIL SOCIETY AFFILIATED WITH THE WBO. EACH AFFILIATED ORGANIZATION IS REPRESENTED BY A DESIGNATED MEMBER ON THE WBO'S ADVISORY BOARD. IN TURN THE ADVISORY BOARD MONITORS THE ACTIVITIES OF THE WBO AND IS ENGAGED WITH THE EXECUTIVE TEAM.
THE WBO INITIATED A NON-RESIDENTIAL RESEARCH FELLOWS PROGRAM AS THE FIRST STEP IN ESTABLISHING A POLICY THINK TANK ON BRAZIL IN WASHINGTON D.C. WE INVITED ELEVEN SCHOLARS WHO ALREADY HAD CONNECTIONS WITH THE WBO TO JOIN THIS PROJECT. THE RESEARCH FELLOWS MET MONTHLY TO DISCUSS THE POLITICAL SITUATION IN BRAZIL AND CONTRIBUTED ARTICLES TO THE WEEKLY WBO BULLETIN ON THE ELECTIONS.
IN JULY 2022 A COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR WAS HIRED. IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR THE RESULT WAS THE MULTIPLICATION OF MENTIONS OF THE WBO IN THE BRAZILIAN AND FOREIGN PRESS. THERE WAS ALSO AN INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF WBO FOLLOWERS ON SOCIAL NETWORKS VISITORS TO THE ORGANIZATION'S WEBSITE INTERVIEWS GIVEN BY ITS DIRECTORS AND PUBLICATION OF OPINION ARTICLES IN MAJOR NEWSPAPERS. THE WBO NOW HAS A MAILING LIST OF 182 BRAZILIAN AND FOREIGN JOURNALISTS. THESE JOURNALISTS HAVE RECEIVED 20 PRESS RELEASES PUBLISHED BY THE WBO IN THE SECOND SEMESTER OF THE YEAR AN AVERAGE OF 5 RELEASES PER MONTH OR MORE THAN ONE PER WEEK WHICH ARE NOW GROUPED TOGETHER IN A NEW SECTION OF THE WEBSITE.
