WORKING TO DEVELOP RELATIONSHIPS WITH SCHOOL DISTRICTS, BUSINESSES, AND STUDENTS IN ORDER TO SET UP 1) A LIFE COACHING/SKILLS PROGRAM, 2)A COLLEGE PREPARATORY PROGRAM IN 2023, THE FOUNDATION SPONSORED MARFA, PRESIDIO AND TERLINGUA STUDENTS TO ATTEND VARIOUS YOUNGLIFE CAMPS IN THE SUMMER. ALAMITO FOUNDATION PARTNERED WITH JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT AND MARFA ISD TO PROVIDE A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE TO MARFA STUDENTS TO CREATE A GARDEN AGRIBUSINESS. THE ACTIVITY PROVIDES YOUTH A SAFE SPACE TO CULTIVATE SKILLS, TAKE CHANCES AND RECEIVE COACHING. STUDENT GROW IN BUSINESS SKILLS, WORK WITH A GROUP, NURTURE SOMETHING WORTH CARING FOR AND START AND RUN THEIR OWN BUSINESS. THIS YEAR, THE STUDENTS CHOSE TO GROW FLOWERS AND START A FLORAL ARRANGEMENT BUSINESS, CALLED MARFA BLOOMS. THE FOUNDATION SPONSORED TRIPS FOR 10 MISD JUNIORS AND SENIORS TO VISIT TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY, UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS SAN ANTONIO AND TEXAS STATE UNIVERSITY. THE FOUNDATION PARTNERED WITH COLLEGE COMMUNITY CAREER(CCC) BASED OUT OF HOUSTON TO HOLD VIRTUAL MEETINGS EVERY WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON FOR 6 MARFA HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS. THE CCC PREPARES STUDENTS FOR ADMISSION TO AND GRADUATION FROM A 4YR UNIVERSITY. 5 OUT OF THE 6 STUDENTS APPLIED FOR COLLEGE. ALAMITO FOUNDATION HOSTED A CAREER FAIR TO INTRODUCE STUDENTS TO A VARIETY OF OCCUPATIONS. ALAMITO PARTNERED WITH CCC AND HOSTED A NIGHT FOR MARFA PARENTS WITH STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN THE CCC PROGRAM TO GUDE THEM AND PREPARE THEM TO APPLY FOR COLLEGE AND FINANCIAL AID. PROVIDED FOOD FOR THE FAMILIES, PRESENTATIONS ABOUT THE PROCESS, AND HELPED CREATE ACCOUNTS SO THAT THEY CAN APPLY. ALAMITO FOUNDATION HOSTED SUMMER SHAKE UP, A 4 DAY SUMMER CAMP IN PARTNERSHIP WITH MARFA ISD FOR 5TH-8TH GRADERS. STUDENTS LEARNED ABOUT SOIL HEALTH BY PREPPING GARDEN BEDS AND TESTING THE SOIL, THE IMPORTANCE OF WATER BY INSTALLING IRRIGATION, AND WERE ABLE TO TAKE PLANTS HOME TO NURTURE. DURING THE PAST TWO YEARS, ALAMITO FOUNDATION HAS DEVELOPED INFRASTRUCTURE TO MEASURE VARIOUS COMPONENTS OF THE RANGELAND SOIL WATER BALANCE ON ALAMITO RANCH.
