TO FOSTER FRATERNAL RELATIONS AMONG ACTIVE, RETIRED AND FORMER OFFICERS OF THE UNITED STATES UNIFORMED SERVICES, SUPPORT ROTC/ROTJ PROGRAMS, PROVIDE FINANCIAL AID TO NEEDY VETERANS, AND OTHER RELIGIOUS, CHARITABLE, SCIENTIFIC, LITERARY AND EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES.

CHARITABLE GRANTS: FUNDS PROVIDED BY MILITARY OFFICERS ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA, COMMUNITY FOUNDATION, AND ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS'SERVICES WERE MADE TO NEEDY VETERANS AND ACTIVE-DUTY MILITARY PERSONNEL AND THEIR FAMILIES IN THE PHOENIX, ARIZONA AND SURROUNDING AREAS. GRANTS WERE FOR FOOD, LIVING EXPENSES AND EMERGENCY FINANCIAL NEEDS; ABOUT 19 INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES RECEIVED CASH GRANTS OF $500 TO $1,500 AND ABOUT 400 PERSONS IN NEEDY MILITARY FAMILIES RECEIVED OVER 1,000 PACKAGED/CANNED FOOD DONATIONS IN KIND AND 60 COMMISSARY GIFT CERTIFICATES.
EDUCATIONAL DINNERS: DINNER EVENTS WITH PROGRAM SPEAKERS HELD THROUGHOUT THE YEAR APPROX 89-90 MEMBERS, SPOUSES AND GUESTS PARTICIPATE AT EACH EVENT. PROGRAM LECTURES INCLUDED: STEVE HOSA ON ARIZONA PRISONER OF WAR CAMPS IN WWII, LIN SUE COONEY ON HOSPICE OF THE VALLEY, LTC STEVE BIGELOW ON TAX ISSUES FOR DISABLED VETERANS, DR. EDUARDO PAGAN ON NAZI SKY RING BUSTED AND OTHERS.
COMMUNICATIONS AND SPECIAL EVENTS: NEWSGRAM IS PUBLISHED EIGHT OF TWELVE MONTHS TO KEEP MEMBERS INFORMED OF EVENTS AND OPPORTUNITIES OF THE ORGANIZATION, INCLUDING CHARITABLE GRANTS TO NEEDY ACTIVE DUTY AND VETERANS OF THE UNITED STATES UNIFORMED SERVICES; ALL MEMBERS POTENTIALLY BENEFIT FROM THESE ACTIVITIES. APPROX 325 COPIES OF THE NEWSGRAM ARE DISTRIBUTED TO CHAPTER MEMBERS AND THE PUBLIC. IN ADDITION, THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDED CLOSED CAPTIONS OF TEXT DURING MOST OF THE LECTURES FOR DEAF AND HEARING IMPAIRED PERSONS IN THE AUDIENCE.
