THE PRIMARY PROGRAMS PROVIDED BY ACBA INCLUDE: LAWYER REFERRAL SERVICE, CRIMINAL COURT APPOINTED ATTORNEYS PROGRAM (CAAP) AND MANDATORY CONTINUING LEGAL EDUCATION.

COURT APPOINTED ATTORNEY PROGRAMWE PROVIDED CRIMINAL DEFENSE REPRESENTATION TO ALAMEDA COUNTY DEFENDANTS WITH WHOM THE PUBLIC DEFENDER HAD A CONFLICT. IN 2022 WE PLACED ABOUT 2900 NEW CASES WITH APPROXIMATELY 60 ATTORNEYS ON OUR PANEL, WHO TOGETHER PUT IN ROUGHLY TENS OF THOUSANDS OF HOURS DEFENDING THE INDIGENT. OUR SOCIAL WORKER PROGRAM FOR JUVENILE DEFENDANTS ALSO CONTINUES TO FLOURISH. IN THE LATTER PART OF 2022, WE ALSO LAUNCHED A SOCIAL WORKER PROGRAM TO HELP CONNECT ATTORNEYS REPRESENTING ADULTS WITH SOCIAL WORKERS.


OTHER PROGRAMS IN 2022 WE HAD 1,391 MEMBERS, AND WE PROVIDED THOSE MEMBERS WITH 169 MANDATORY CONTINUING LEGAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS. IN ADDITION, WE CARRIED OUT A VARIETY OF OTHER PROGRAMS INCLUDING COMMUNITY PROJECTS AND A FORUM FOR LEGAL SERVICE PROVIDERS TO SHARE KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE AND HELP IMPROVE THE DELIVERY OF LEGAL SERVICES IN ALAMEDA COUNTY.


LAWYER REFERRAL SERVICEIN 2022, OUR LAWYER REFERRAL SERVICE REFERRED 1,938 CLIENTS TO 102 ATTORNEYS ON OUR PANEL. CALLERS NOT PLACED GENERALLY WERE GIVEN OTHER COMMUNITY RESOURCES AND REFERRALS. THE LRS ALSO CONDUCTED INTAKE FOR THE FREE CLINICS RUN BY THE RELATED ORGANIZATION, VOLUNTEER LEGAL SERVICES CORPORATION.
