BOLT IS COMMITTED TO ELIMINATING THE SYSTEMIC BARRIERS THAT CONTINUE TO PREVENT BLACK COMMUNITIES FROM SECURELY ACCESSING LAND BECAUSE WE BELIEVE THAT LAND SOVEREIGNTY IS THE KEY TO ACHIEVING OUR VISIONS OF FOOD JUSTICE, GENERATIONAL WEALTH AND HEALTH, CULTURAL PRESERVATION, AND THRIVING COMMUNITIES.

Part 3 - Line 4a

YOUTH EDUCATION - THE YOUTH EDUCATION PROGRAM SUPPORTS CLIMATE-RESILIENCE SKILLS AND NATURE-BASED RELATIONSHIPS FOR YOUTH AGE 2-12. IN 2022 30 YOUTH PARTICIPATED IN PROGRAMMING FROM ANIMAL TENDING, SEED SAVING, WATER LIFE CYCLE EDUCATION, CONSERVATION, AND MORE.


BLACK FARMER APPRENTICE PROGRAM - THIS PROGRAM SUPPORTS EMERGING BLACK FARMERS IN DEVELOPING HANDS-ON SKILLS DURING A WORKING APPRENTICESHIP FROM MAY- OCTOBER. IN 2022 2 ASPIRING FARMERS COMPLETED THE 4 MONTH INTERNSHIP BETWEEN 3 DIFFERENT BLACK FARMS, AND AN ADDITIONAL 5 APPRENTICES COMPLETED SKILL WORKSHOPS AND FOUNDATIONAL TRAINING TO SUPPORT THEIR CAREERS IN AGRICULTURE.


LAND ACQUISITION - OUR LAND ACQUISITION PROGRAM CONSERVES WORKING FARMLAND AND RIPARIAN AREAS AND HOLDS THEM PERMANENTLY UNDER TRUST, FOR THE PURPOSES OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION AND PROVIDING AFFORDABLE AND SECURE LAND ACCESS TO BLACK FARMING FAMILIES. OUR FIRST LAND PURCHASE WAS MADE IN OCTOBER 2022, PRESERVING 10 ACRES OF FARMLAND, STREAM, AND FOREST THAT NOW HOUSES A BLACK FARMING FAMILY DOING REGENERATIVE LIVESTOCK WORK, AND ALSO SERVES AS OUR FIRST HEADQUARTERS FOR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING.
