USA GYMNASTICS: WHEN YOU THINK OF MINNESOTA AND GYMNASTICS, CHANCES ARE YOU THINK OF THE HEART-STOPPING, JAW-DROPPING OLYMPIC PERFORMANCES OF SUNI LEE, GRACE MCCALLUM AND JOHN ROETHLISBERGER. BUT THAT'S JUST THE BEGINNING. EVERY DAY, MINNESOTA IS INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION OF AMAZING, WORLD-CLASS GYMNASTS. WE HAVE 61 USA GYMNASTICS CLUBS ACROSS OUR STATE, AND 130 HIGH SCHOOLS WITH TEAMS COMPETING THROUGH MSHSL. THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA HAS A D1 WOMEN'S GYMNASTICS PROGRAM, AND THREE OTHER MINNESOTA UNIVERSITIES HAVE MEN'S AND WOMEN'S GYMNASTICS TEAMS COMPETING AT THE D3 LEVEL. WHEN IT COMES TO HOSTING GYMNASTICS EVENTS, MINNEAPOLIS AND ST. PAUL SCORES A PERFECT 10. WE'VE WELCOMED FANS FROM AROUND THE WORLD TO SOME OF THE BIGGEST EVENTS IN THE SPORT, FROM THE GOLD OVER AMERICA TOUR AND THE USAG TOUR, TO THE USA GYMNASTICS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS, TOUR OF WORLD GYMNASTICS CHAMPIONS, AND WORLD GOLD GYMNASTICS. IN FACT, YOU COULD SAY WE'VE BEEN TRAINING FOR THE 2024 OLYMPIC TRIALS FOR DECADES! BECAUSE OF THE DYNAMIC GYMNASTICS' COMMUNITY, MINNEAPOLIS WAS CHOSEN AS A FINALIST CITY IN Q4 OF 22. MINNESOTA SPORTS AND EVENTS WORKED CLOSELY WITH UNITED STATES GYMNASTICS TO CHOOSE TARGET CENTER AND MINNEAPOLIS CONVENTION CENTER TO HOST THE EVENTS. MINNESOTA SPORTS AND EVENTS EXECUTIVE BOARD VOTED TO MOVE AHEAD TO SUBMIT THE BID FOR THE OLYMPIC TRIALS BECAUSE IT MET THE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE ORGANIZATION: * SIGNIFICANT ECONOMIC IMPACT - $40-$50M * SIGNIFICANT VISITORS TO MN - APP 40,000 FROM REGION, STATE AND ACROSS THE COUNTRY * POSITIVE IMPACT ON STILL STRUGGLING HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY, ESPECIALLY IN DOWNTOWN MINNEAPOLIS * MULTIPLE VENUE USE - TARGET CENTER AND MCC * USAG'S DESIRE TO CHOOSE A HOST CITY THAT ALIGNS WITH FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS * 4 NIGHTS OF NBC PRIMETIME, AS WELL AS DIGITAL AND SOCIAL PROMOTIONAL EXPOSURE AND COVERAGE THAT WILL PROVIDE MILLIONS OF MEDIA IMPRESSIONS TO SUPPORT MINNEAPOLIS. * DURING THE OLYMPICS, A FEW WEEKS LATER, CONTINUAL REFERENCES TO THE OLYMPIC TRIALS IN MINNEAPOLIS WILL CONTINUE TO EXPAND ON THE POSITIVE IMPACT FOR MINNEAPOLIS AND THE STATE OF MINNESOTA. USA GYMNASTICS, THE NATIONAL GOVERNING BODY OF UNITED STATES GYMNASTICS, HAS CHOSEN MINNEAPOLIS TO HOST THE OLYMPIC TRIALS AND 3 ADDITIONAL EVENTS IN JUNE OF 2024. THE EVENTS WILL ALL KICK OFF IN JUNE 2024 WHEN WE WELCOME FOUR GYMNASTICS EVENTS IN AN 8-DAY SPAN INCLUDING THE OLYMPIC TRIALS (TARGET CENTER), USA GYMNASTICS NATIONAL CONGRESS, USA GYMNASTICS CHAMPIONSHIPS AND GYMNASTICS FOR ALL. THE USA GYMNASTICS CHAMPIONSHIPS FEATURE RHYTHMIC, TRAMPOLINE, TUMBLING AND ACROBATIC GYMNASTICS. GYMNASTICS FOR ALL FEATURES 500 ATHLETES IN WHAT IS ALSO KNOWN AS GROUP GYMNASTICS, WITH COMPETITIVE AND NONCOMPETITIVE OPPORTUNITIES AND A DIVISION FOR GYMNASTS WITH DISABILITIES. NATIONAL CONGRESS IS THE LARGEST EDUCATIONAL EVENT IN THE SPORT WITH 2500 GYMNASTICS PROFESSIONALS AND EXHIBITORS FROM AROUND THE WORLD. THEN LAST, BUT CERTAINLY NOT LEAST, THE OLYMPIC TRIALS WHICH WILL CONCLUDE ON SUNDAY JUNE 30 WITH THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE MEN'S AND WOMEN'S OLYMPIC GYMNASTICS TEAMS WHO WILL BE HEADING TO PARIS TO REPRESENT THE UNITED STATES. BASED ON THE BID REQUIREMENTS, THE BUDGET FOR EXECUTING THE EVENT (INCLUDING ALL EVENT OPERATIONS, PUBLIC SAFETY, ANCILLARY EVENTS, TEAM ACCOMMODATIONS) IS $5.8M. THIS IS THE NEED THAT WAS PRESENTED AND AWARDED TO MNSE FOR THE EVENT.
MNSE GENERAL PROGRAM SERVES AS AN UMBRELLA ORGANIZATION FOR THE METROPOLITAN MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL AREA, TO ATTRACT AND SECURE FUTURE EVENTS, SUCH AS THE MEN'S FINAL FOUR, OLYMPICS GYMNASTICS TEAM TRIALS, WORLD JUNIOR'S HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP, AND WWE SUMMER SLAM.
BIG 10 2024: AS THE LOCAL ORGANIZING COMMITTEE (LOC), MINNESOTA SPORTS AND EVENTS (MNSE) IS THRILLED TO BRING BOTH THE BIG TEN WOMEN'S AND MEN'S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS TO TARGET CENTER NEXT SPRING! THOUSANDS OF BIG TEN ALUMNI, STUDENTS AND BASKETBALL FANS WILL TRAVEL TO MINNESOTA OVER TWO WEEKS IN MARCH 2024 TO WITNESS SOME OF THE MOST COMPETITIVE AND EXCITING COLLEGIATE BASKETBALL IN THE COUNTRY! THE HEART OF MINNEAPOLIS TRANSFORMS TO HOST ONE OF THE NATION'S MOST PRESTIGIOUS COLLEGE BASKETBALL EVENTS. BIG TEN'S DECISION TO BRING THE TOURNAMENT TO MINNESOTA AS THEY EMBARKED ON A NEW CHAPTER FOR THEIR ORGANIZATION IS A TESTAMENT TO OUR REPUTATION FOR PRODUCING WORLD-CLASS EVENTS, THE IMPACT WE HAVE MADE WITH OUR COMMITMENT TO DIVERSE AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT AND BEING NAMED THE MECCA OF WOMEN'S BASKETBALL BY THE NEW YORK TIMES.
