TO SUPPORT THE BOSQUE DEL APACHE NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE, AND TO PROMOTE APPRECIATION AND CONSERVATION OF WILDLIFE AND HABITAT THROUGH ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AND NATURAL HISTORY EXPERIENCES AT THE REFUGE.

FRIENDS MANAGES THE NATURE STORE ONSITE AND ONLINE WHICH SELLS ITEMS RELATED TO ITS EXEMPT PURPOSE BOTH ONSITE AND ONLINE.


THE FRIENDS HAVE SEVERAL PROGRAMS THAT BENEFIT AND SUPPLEMENT THE EDUCATION AND OUTREACH EFFORTS OF THE REFUGE SUCH AS AN EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR ELEMENTARY CHILDREN, THE QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER, AND OTHER PUBLIC RELATIONS EFFORTS.


FESTIVAL OF CRANES - A FOUR-DAY EVENT HELD EACH NOVEMBER DURING THE ARRIVAL OF THE MIGRATION OF SANDHILL CRANES. FRIENDS ADMINISTERS THE EVENT INCLUDING ORGANIZING EDUCATIONAL LECTURES, TOURS, HIKES AND EXHIBITS AND REGISTERING VISITORS INTO RESERVED SESSIONS. IN NOVEMBER 2021, WE COULD NOT HOLD FOC DUE TO COVID RESTRICTIONS AND RAN A 3-DAY VIRTUAL EVENT CALLED CRANE FIESTA.


SAFEGUARDING SANDHILL CRANE HABITAT - FRIENDS PLAN TO RAISE OVER $750,000 IN THE NEXT 5 YEARS FOR THIS KEY REFUGE PROGRAM. THROUGH THIS PROGRAM, WE WILL SAFE GUARD HABITAT FOR SANDHILL CRANES AND OTHER WILDLIFE FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS. THE PROGRAM AIMS TO: - ENHANCE THE REFUGE'S ABILITIES TO MIMIC NATURAL RIVER CYCLES THROUGH RESTORATION AND UPGRADE OF WATER CONTROL INFRASTRUCTURE AND FORAGE PRODUCTION CAPACITY. - USE IMPROVED MODERN WATER CONTROL EQUIPMENT AND TECHNOLOGY AND WATER SYSTEM UPGRADES TO STABILIZE ECO-SYSTEMS WHILE MAXIMIZING FORAGE CAPACITIES WITH AVAILABLE WATER RESOURCES. - UPGRADE CRITICAL WATER CONTROL SYSTEMS TO PROVIDE IMPROVED DROUGHT MANAGEMENT OPTIONS.
