THE ASSOCIATION PROMOTES THE GENERAL WELFARE OF MEMBERS (NEW MEXICO HORSEMEN) BY FOSTERING A HIGHER LEVEL OF PUBLIC AWARENESS AND ACCEPTANCE OF THE HORSE RACING INDUSTRY IN THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO. THE ASSOCIATION ALSO REPRESENTS MEMBERS BY:(1)KEEPING RECORDS AS REQUIRED BY STATUTE OF THE DAILY PARI-MUTUEL HANDLE FOR THE PURPOSE OF PURSE MONEY DISTRIBUTION AT EVERY NEW MEXICO TRACK AND MAINTAINING AND ADMINISTERING SEPARATE BANK ACCOUNTS FOR THE HORSEMEN'S SHARE OF RACINO GAMING MACHINE REVENUE AT EACH NEW MEXICO TRACK AND DISBURSING THOSE FUNDS TO THE TRACKS FOR PAYMENT OF RACE PURSES;(2)PROVIDING REPRESENTATION TO THE NEW MEXICO RACING COMMISSION'S MEDICATIONS AND RULES COMMITTEES;(3)BEING PRESENT AT EVERY SINGLE GENERAL MEETING OF THE NEW MEXICO RACING COMMISSION TO PROTECT THE INTERESTS OF MEMBERS;(4)SERVING AS THE OFFICIAL LIAISON BETWEEN THE HORSEMEN AND TRACK MANAGEMENT AND STATE REGULATORY AUTHORITIES; AND (5)MAINTAINING A LOCAL OFFICE AT EACH TRACK DURING LIVE RACING MEETS FOR THE CONVENIENCE OF MEMBERS.
THE ASSOCIATION MAINTAINS A MEDICAL BENEFIT FUND FOR THE HEALTH AND WELL- BEING OF MEMBERS, PROVIDING ILLNESS AND ACCIDENT MEDICAL ASSISTANCE PAYMENTS TO QUALIFIED MEMBERS UP TO 1,500 FOR ILLNESS AND ACCIDENTS PER YEAR. THIS INCLUDES RECEIVING AND HOLDING IN CUSTODY FUNDS RECEIVED BY NEW MEXICO STATUTE FOR MEMBER MEDICAL BENEFITS AND THE DISBURSEMENT OF THESE BENEFITS TO MEMBERS AS MANDATED BY STATUTE, AS WELL AS MEETING ANY EXCESS REQUIREMENTS FOR THESE PAYMENTS FROM THE GENERAL REVENUES OF THE ASSOCIATION.
