AUGUSTANA ARTS PROMOTES THE MUSICAL ARTS IN THE COMMUNITY BY SUPPORTING A CHAMBER ORCHESTRA, PRODUCING LIVE CONCERTS BY RECOGNIZED MUSICIANS, AND PROMOTING THE MUSICAL EDUCATION OF CHILDREN IN UNDERSERVED SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITIES.

MUSIC ENCOUNTERS (FORMERLY CITY STRINGS) WAS FORMED IN 2002 TO OFFER VIOLIN AND CELLO INSTRUCTION TO ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED CHILDREN IN SIX SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITY SITES IN THE DENVER METRO AREA. THE PROGRAM PROVIDED MUSICAL INSTRUCTION TO 85 AT-RISK CHILDREN AS WELL AS PROVIDING SKILLS IN SELF-DISCIPLINE AND CONFIDENCE. ATTENDANCE IS BACK TO PREPANDEMIC LEVELS. THE NUMBER OF SCHOOLS SERVED IS REDUCED FROM PREPANDEMIC LEVELS, BUT NEW SCHOOLS ARE BEING ADDED AS THE YEAR PROGRESSES.
AUGUSTANA ARTS SUPPORTS MUSICAL PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH THE STRATUS CHAMBER ORCHESTRA WHICH ENGAGES 40 COMMUNITY MUSICIANS WHO SHARE A VISION OF PERFORMING THE FINEST MUSICAL EXPERIENCES IN INNOVATIVE SETTINGS. STRATUS WAS BACK TO IN-PERSON PERFORMANCES PROVIDING FIVE LIVE CONCERTS FOR A TOTAL AUDIENCE OF 604. DUE TO THE PANDEMIC CLOSURE, THE COLORADO WOMENS CHORALE HAS BEEN TEMPORARILY DISCONTINUED.
THE AUGUSTANA ARTS CONCERT SERIES PRESENTS LOCALLY AND NATIONALLY ACCLAIMED MUSICIANS IN A WIDE VARIETY OF CONCERTS PRESENTED AT AUGUSTANA LUTHERAN CHURCH AS WELL AS MANAGING INDEPENDENT CONCERTS AT THE CHURCH. NINE LIVE CONCERTS WERE PRESENTED TO A TOTAL OF 892 AUDIENCE MEMBERS.
