Part 3 - Line 4a
REFUGEE PROGRAM: PROVIDING, FREE, WELCOMING STAYS FOR REFUGEES, ASYLUM SEEKERS AND OTHER NEWCOMERS WAS A FOUNDING PILLAR OF AIRBNB.ORG. IN 2021, IN RESPONSE TO THE HUMANITARIAN CRISIS IN AFGHANISTAN, AIRBNB.ORG FUNDED AND FACILITATED FREE TEMPORARY HOUSING FOR MORE THAN 10,000 REFUGEES FLEEING THE COUNTRY. AIRBNB.ORG ALSO PROVIDED FREE STAYS TO NEWCOMERS FROM OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD, INCLUDING PROGRAMS IN LATIN AMERICA. AIRBNB.ORG PROVIDED GRANTS TO REFUGEE RESETTLEMENT AGENCIES AND OTHER NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS TO FUND THESE STAYS. AIRBNB.ORG'S PROGRAM ALSO ENABLED HOSTS TO PROVIDE FREE STAYS TO REFUGEE GUESTS, BUILDING CONNECTIONS WITHIN COMMUNITIES.
DISASTER RESPONSE PROGRAM: THE IDEA FOR AIRBNB.ORG BEGAN WITH ONE WOMAN OPENING HER HOME FOR FREE TO NEIGHBORS EVACUATING DURING HURRICANE SANDY. AIRBNB.ORG NOW PROVIDES FREE EMERGENCY TEMPORARY HOUSING TO PEOPLE SEVERELY IMPACTED BY NATURAL DISASTERS AND RELIEF WORKERS RESPONDING AND HELPING COMMUNITIES RECOVER. IN 2021, AIRBNB.ORG FUNDED AND FACILITATED STAYS IN RESPONSE TO FLOODING IN EUROPE, AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND, HURRICANES IN THE U.S., AND AN EARTHQUAKE IN HAITI, AMONG OTHERS. AIRBNB.ORG PROVIDED GRANTS TO NONPROFIT PARTNERS WHO FACILITATED SOME OF THESE STAYS. OTHER STAYS WERE FACILITATED THROUGH AIRBNB.ORG'S UNIQUE DISASTER RESPONSE ACTIVATION PLATFORM, WHICH DIRECTLY CONNECTS EVACUEES WITH HOSTS WHO OFFER STAYS FOR FREE THROUGH AIRBNB.ORG.
COVID-19 FRONTLINE RESPONDER PROGRAM: IN 2021, AIRBNB.ORG CONTINUED TO FUND AND FACILITATE FREE STAYS FOR FRONTLINE WORKERS TRAVELING TO RESPOND TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, INCLUDING THOSE ADMINISTERING FREE COVID-19 TESTS AND VACCINES, THROUGH ITS GRANTS TO NONPROFIT PARTNERS.
