APLD HAS SOUGHT TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ON LEGIONNAIRES' DISEASE THROUGH THE COMPANY'S WEBSITE. THE WEBSITE CONTAINS DETAILED, UP-TO-DATE INFORMATION ON THE CAUSES OF THE DISEASE AND AVAILABLE METHODS OF PREVENTION, INCLUDING SOURCE WATER TREATMENT, MAINTENANCE AND IMPROVEMENT OF PUBLIC WATER DISTRIBUTION AND BUILDING WATER SYSTEMS, WATER EQUIPMENT MANAGEMENT, OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION, AND RESEARCH. THE WEBSITE ALSO PROVIDES ONGOING NEWS COVERAGE OF REPORTED CASES OF THE DISEASE AS WELL AS ADVOCACY ENDEAVORS BY APLD AND OTHER ACTIVISTS. APLD HAS ENGAGED WITH PUBLIC OFFICIALS AND PARTICIPATED IN ACADEMIC, PUBLIC HEALTH, AND WATER INDUSTRY CONFERENCES AND MEETINGS RELATED TO THE DISEASE. APLD PURSUED POLICIES IN VARIOUS STATES INCLUDING NEW JERSEY, MARYLAND, ILLINOIS AND PENNSYLVANIA THAT PRIORITIZE UPSTREAM WATER MANAGEMENT AS A PRIMARY LINE OF DEFENSE AGAINST LEGIONELLA. THANKS TO THE COMPANY'S EFFORTS, HB4899 WAS PASSED IN ILLINOIS WHICH WILL REQUIRE PUBLIC NOTIFICATION BY UTILITIES TO SPECIFIED HEALTH CARE FACILITIES IN THE EVENT OF ANY DISRUPTION EVENT TO THE PUBLIC DRINKING WATER SYSTEM. THE COMPANY ALSO SUCCESSFULLY OPPOSED SB1144 IN CALIFORNIA, A POLICY WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN INEFFECTIVELY NARROW IF PASSED. THE POLICY WAS VETOED BY GOVERNOR NEWSOM ON SEPTEMBER 30TH.
