OPEN SOCIETY INSTITUTE-BALTIMORE IS THE SOLE FIELD OFFICE OF THE OPEN SOCIETY FOUNDATIONS' OPEN SOCIETY-US. WE WORK WITH LOCAL AND NATIONAL PARTNERS, BALTIMORE RESIDENTS AND COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS TO FIGHT FOR A FAIR AND EQUITABLE REDISTRIBUTION OF CAPITAL AND RESOURCES TO COMMUNITIES OF COLOR AND ORGANIZATIONS WORKING FOR CHANGE IN THE CITY. THROUGH STRATEGIC GRANTMAKING, COMMUNITY EDUCATION. AND ADVOCACY, WE AIM TO IMPROVE HEALTH EQUITY AND COMMUNITY WELLBEING; ENSURE BALTIMORE'S YOUTH ARE FULLY INCLUDED IN SCHOOLING AND OTHER OPPORTUNITIES TO PREPARE THEM FOR SUCCESS IN ADULTHOOD; REDUCE THE OVER-RELIANCE ON INCARCERATION AND PROMOTE FAIR AND RESTORATIVE SYSTEMS OF JUSTICE; AND SUPPORT A GROWING GROUP OF SOCIAL INNOVATORS AND ACTIVISTS AS PART OF OUR ENTREPRENEURIAL FELLOWSHIPS PROGRAM.
SOUTH ASIA PROGRAM - AFGHANISTAN: SINCE ITS LAUNCH IN AUGUST 2021, BOTH THE AFGHANISTAN EVACUATION FUND AND THE AFGHANISTAN EMERGENCY HUMANITARIAN FUND (AEHF) HAVE BEEN PROVIDING GRANTS TO SUPPORT RESETTLEMENT EFFORTS IN THE US AND OTHER KEY GEOGRAPHIES, AND TO ENSURE CRITICAL HUMANITARIAN SUPPORT IS MAKING ITS WAY INTO AFGHANISTAN AND THE SURROUNDING REGION. IN THE UNITED STATES, THE AEHF HAS PROVIDED A RANGE OF GRANTS TO SUPPORT NEW AFGHAN ARRIVALS IN THE UNITED STATES INCLUDING TO SUPPORT STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT EFFORTS RELATED TO HOUSING, EMPLOYMENT AND CHILDREN'S AND FAMILY SERVICES.
SOUTH AFRICA CONSTITUTIONALISM FUND : THE PROGRAM HAS A MANDATE TO SUPPORT THE EFFORTS OF CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS TO PROMOTE AND ADVANCE CONSTITUTIONALISM IN SOUTH AFRICA. IN ADDITION, EMPHASIS IS PLACED ON INTERNAL INSTITUTIONAL TRANSFORMATION SUCH THAT KEY ORGANIZATIONS IN THE FIELD REFLECT THE NATIONAL DEMOGRAPHIC. THIS MANDATE ALSO EXTENDS TO THE SUSTAINABILITY AND TRANSFORMATION OF THE FIELD MORE BROADLY.
