ESTABLISHED IN 2015, THE ELIZABETH YOUTH THEATER ENSEMBLE'S MISSION IS CENTERED UPON STRENGTHENING THE VOICES OF YOUNG ARTISTS. UTILIZING THEATER-ARTS BASED CURRICULA, EYTE PROVIDES CREATIVE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE YOUTH OF CITY AND GLOBAL MAJORITIES, WHERE THEY GAIN EXPERIENCES THAT EMPOWER SELF AND COMMUNITY.

ARTS-BASED VIOLENCE PREVENTION AND SKILL-BUILDING ACHIEVEMENTS: WALKING THE BEAT EMPLOYS ARTS-BASED STRATEGIES TO PREVENT VIOLENCE AMONG YOUTH AND PROMOTE SKILL-BUILDING.THE PROGRAM USES CREATIVE TRACKS SUCH AS THEATER, VIRTUAL REALITY, FILMMAKING, MUSIC PRODUCTION, AND ORAL HISTORY TO PROVIDE PARTICIPANTS WITH TOOLS FOR SELF-EXPRESSION, TRAUMA PROCESSING, AND SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING. THE PROGRAM SERVED 150 YOUTH WITH PLANS TO REACH 300 IN NEXT YEAR, ALONGSIDE 30-35 LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS.
WALKING THE BEAT STRENGTHENS RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN LAW ENFORCEMENT AND THE COMMUNITY BY INVOLVING POLICE OFFICERS IN WORKSHOPS AND PROJECTS.YOUTH ENGAGE IN CREATING PUBLIC SAFETY SOLUTIONS AND PARTICIPATING IN ACTIVITIES LIKE A COMMUNITY MURAL AGAINST GUN VIOLENCE. THE PROGRAM'S CULTURAL RESPONSIVENESS AND FOCUS ON DIVERSITY ENSURE REPRESENTATION ACROSS UNDERSERVED GROUPS, INCLUDING LGBTQIA+ YOUTH AND YOUNG WOMEN.
EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. ACHIEVEMENTS: THROUGH MENTORSHIP IN ARTS DISCIPLINES AND PAID SUMMER WORK PROGRAMS, WALKING THE BEAT BRIDGES GAPS IN EDUCATION AND EMPLOYMENT READINESS. THE PROGRAM HAS ACHIEVED RECORD PARTICIPATION WITH 58 STUDENTS IN 2024, REFLECTING INCREASED APPEAL AND SUSTAINED INTEREST.
