GEVA THEATRE CENTER'S PRIMARY FOCUS IS THE PRODUCTION AND PRESENTATION OF PROFESSIONAL THEATRE PRODUCTIONS IN ITS 517-SEAT WILSON STAGE AND 180-SEAT FIELDING STAGE THEATRES. THESE PERFORMANCES SERVE RESIDENTS AND VISITORS OF MONROE COUNTY AND THE 11 SURROUNDING COUNTIES NEAR ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
EDUCATION, OUTREACH, LITERARY AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMS ARE INTEGRAL TO THE MISSION OF THE ORGANIZATION. OVER 20,000 SCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN ARE SERVED EACH YEAR VIA IN-SCHOOL WORKSHOPS, DISCOVERY GUIDE PRINT MATERIALS, TEACHER WORKSHOPS, ARTIST IN THE CLASSROOM VISITS, AND ATTENDANCE AT THEATRE PRODUCTIONS. GEVA SERVES PATRONS THROUGH PROLOGUE PRE-PERFORMANCE DISCUSSIONS, SUNDAY SALON, AND ACCESSIBILITY PROGRAMS THAT INCLUDE SIGN-INTERPRETED, AUDIO DESCRIBED, AND OPEN CAPTIONED PERFORMANCES. GEVA ALSO HAS A THEATRE ALLIANCE WITH SUNY BROCKPORT, AND HOSTS A PRE-PROFESSIONAL THEATRE TRAINING PROGRAM FOR TALENTED TEENS DURING THE SUMMER. THIS FIVE WEEK SUMMER ACADEMY CULMINATES IN A SHOWCASE PERFORMANCE BY THE STUDENTS ON THE WILSON STAGE.
NEW PLAY DEVELOPMENT AND LITERARY PROGRAMS PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN THE ORGANIZATION'S SERVICE TO THE NATIONAL FIELD AND THE LOCAL COMMUNITY. GEVA PROVIDES DEVELOPMENTAL WORKSHOPS AND PERFORMANCES FOR YOUNG WRITERS, WRITERS IN THE EARLY STAGES OF THEIR CAREERS, AND REGIONAL AND NATIONAL PROFESSIONAL PLAYWRIGHTS. IN ADDITION, GEVA HOSTS NEW PLAY READINGS, A FESTIVAL OF NEW THEATRE AND COMMUNITY DISCUSSIONS AROUND CONTEMPORARY ISSUES, FREE OF CHARGE, IN THE FIELDING STAGE.
