THE MIDLAND COUNTY WELFARE BOARD PROVIDES FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO CHILDREN IN CPS CARE FROM MIDLAND COUNTY. THERE ARE CURRENTLY 45 CHILDREN IN CARE, ALTHOUGH THE NUMBER HAS BEEN AS HIGH AS 125 IN PAST YEARS. IN ADDITON TO FULFILLING REQUESTS CPS IDENTIFIES FOR THE CHILDREN, WE PROVIDE A BIRTHDAY GIFT CARD AND A CHRISTMAS GIFT CARD TO EACH CHILD. EXAMPLES OF THE REQUESTS WE RECEIVE RANGE FROM CLOTHING AND SCHOOL UNIFORMS WHEN THE CHILD IS REMOVED FROM THE HOME, MEDICAL EXPENSES NOT COVERED BY THE STATE (E.G. CRANIAL HELMETS FOR INFANTS OR ORTHODONTIA), CAR SEATS, BEDS AND BEDDING, EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES (SUCH AS SUMMER CAMP OR SOCCER PARTICIPATION), AND SEASONAL CLOTHING OR SUPPLEMENTAL CLOTHING WHEN THE CHILD GROWS. IN ADDITION, WE RECOGNIZE ADOPTIONS WITH A CELEBRATORY MEAL FOR THE NEW FAMILY, PROVIDE BACK TO SCHOOL ASSISTANCE TO FAMILIES, AND HELP CPS WITH THEIR PROGRAM TO GIVE EACH CHILD IN CARE 2 CHRISTMAS WISHES.
