EDUCATION:THE ORGANIZATION SPONSORS VASCULAR INTERVENTIONAL ADVANCES ("VIVA"), THE GLOBAL EDUCATION COURSE FOR VASCULAR MEDICINE AND INTERVENTION. VIVA IS CONDUCTED ANNUALLY IN LAS VEGAS, NEVADA AND ON A SMALLER SCALE WITH OTHER NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS IN A COLLABORATIVE ROLE BOTH DOMESTICALLY AND WORLDWIDE. IN 2021, THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE WAS HOSTED LIVE AND VIRTUALLY AND SEVERAL EDUCATIONAL WEBINARS WERE HELD THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.VIVA IS SPONSORED BY VPI AND CONTRACTS WITH AN ACCREDITED CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION (CME) PROVIDER TO APPROVE CREDITS FOR PHYSICIAN ATTENDEES AND VARIOUS OTHER ACCREDITING BODIES TO APPROVE CREDITS FOR NURSES AND OTHER HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS. VIVA FURTHERS VPI'S EXEMPT PURPOSE AS BOTH AN ACCREDITED CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION PROGRAM AND A FORUM FOR PROMOTING THE LATEST RESEARCH FINDINGS AND TECHNOLOGY IN THE FIELD OF VASCULAR MEDICINE AND INTERVENTION.IN 2015, VIVA ADDED A TWO-DAY PROGRAM, THE VEINS (VENOUS ENDOVASCULAR INTERVENTIONAL STRATEGIES), FOCUSED EXCLUSIVELY ON TREATING PATIENTS WITH VENOUS DISEASE. THIS COURSE IS HELD ANNUALLY THE DAYS PRECEDING THE VITA CONFERENCE.VPI HAS SUPPORTED A MULTIDISCIPLINARY FELLOWSHIP FOR SEVERAL YEARS. IN THE PAST FIVE YEARS, ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR TRAINING FELLOWS HAVE BEEN INCORPORATED INTO THE ANNUAL VIVA CONFERENCE. VIVA PARTNERED WITH THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION TO PROVIDE RESEARCH GRANTS FOR FELLOWS. VPI PLANS TO CONTINUE THIS COLLABORATION THROUGH 2023.VIVA IS FUNDED PRIMARILY THROUGH UNRESTRICTED EDUCATIONAL GRANTS FROM COMMERCIAL SUPPORTERS IN ACCORDANCE WITH STANDARDS OF THE AMERICAN COUNCIL FOR CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION (ACCME). VIVA ALSO GENERATES FUNDS THROUGH REGISTRATION AND TUITION PAYMENTS FROM THE CONFERENCE ATTENDEES.VPI STRIVES TO BE THE PREMIER EDUCATOR IN THE FIELD OF VASCULAR MEDICINE AND INTERVENTION AND TO ASSOCIATE THE NAME "VIVA" WITH CUTTING EDGE AND STATE-OF-THE-ART PROGRAMS THAT SERVE THE PUBLIC GOOD BY PROMOTING ADVANCES IN TREATMENT OF PERIPHERAL VASCULAR DISEASE.BEGINNING IN 2012, VPI EXPANDED ITS INTERNATIONAL EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES BY COLLABORATING WITH INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS TO PROVIDE STATE OF THE ART LEARNING MODALITIES AND CUTTING-EDGE PROGRAMS IN COUNTRIES SUCH AS BRAZIL, GERMANY, GREAT BRITAIN, ISRAEL AND CHINA.IN 2014, VPI LAUNCHED A VIRTUAL VIVA APPLICATION THAT MADE IT POSSIBLE FOR INTERNATIONAL AND MILITARY PHYSICIANS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ANNUAL VIVA CONFERENCE REMOTELY. VIVA OFFERS COMPLIMENTARY ACCESS TO EDUCATIONAL CONTENT THROUGH THE VIRTUAL VIVA APP TO INTERNATIONAL PHYSICIANS AS WELL AS ALL ACTIVE MILITARY PHYSICIANS. RESEARCH:VPI SPONSORS RESEARCH AND PIONEERING THERAPY IN THE FIELD OF VASCULAR MEDICINE. VPI RECEIVES GRANTS FROM INDUSTRY AS WELL AS CONTRIBUTIONS FROM PRIVATE INDIVIDUALS IN SUPPORT OF PVD RESEARCH.VPI HAS MANAGED SEVERAL FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION ("FDA") APPROVED STUDIES RELATED TO PVD TREATMENT. THESE TRIALS FOLLOW GOOD CLINICAL PRACTICE (GCP) PROTOCOLS AND REQUIRE STRICT INSTITUTIONAL REVIEW BOARD (IRB) APPROVAL AT EACH SITE.ADVOCACY:AS PART OF VPI'S STRATEGIC PLAN, PATIENT CARE ADVOCACY PROGRAMS, FOCUSED ON ADVANCING THE FIELD OF VASCULAR DISEASE CARE, ARE PLANNED TO INCLUDE THOUGHT LEADERS AND GOVERNMENT AGENCIES, INCLUDING THE FDA AND CENTERS FOR MEDICARE & MEDICAID SERVICES (CMS). THE FIRST PROGRAM WAS HELD APRIL 2016 AND FOCUSED ON THE GLOBAL MANAGEMENT OF CRITICAL LIMB ISCHEMIA, ONE OF THE MOST CHALLENGING PATIENT DISORDERS. THE SECOND "VASCULAR DISEASE FORUM" OCCURRED IN MAY 2018, FOCUSING ON TREATMENT AND MANAGEMENT OF CAROTID ARTERY DISEASE AND THE MOST RECENT FORUM IN FEBRUARY 2019 FOCUSED ON THE RECENT META-ANALYSIS ON THE SAFETY OF PACLITAXEL. VPI HAS TAKEN THE LEAD IN ANALYZING PATIENT LEVEL DATA TO HELP ANSWER THE QUESTION OF PATIENT SAFETY. THESE FINDINGS WERE RECENTLY PUBLISHED IN A PEER-REVIEWED JOURNAL, CIRCULATION. VPI IS PLANNING ANOTHER FORUM IN 2022 WITH THE TOPIC ADDRESSING PRESSING ISSUES RELATED TO VENOUS STENTING AND THROMBECTOMY.DURING THE YEAR, TOTAL OF APPROXIMATELY 1300 PEOPLE WERE SERVED FOR VIVA CONFERENCE AND FOR VEINS (TWO DAY PROGRAM).
