CONSERVATION, EDUCATION, REPRESENTATION AND OUTREACH. THIS IS THE MAIN THRUST OF LWF'S WORK. THROUGH THIS PROGRAM, LWF CO-SPONSORS EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES FOR HUNTERS, ANGLERS AND OTHER OUTDOOR ENTHUSIASTS TO EXPLAIN HOW TO CONSERVE THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE IN LOUISIANA. LWF MONITORED AND POSTED REPORTS ON VARIOUS LEGISLATIVE PROPOSALS AND AGENCY ACTIONS THAT AFFECTED NATURAL RESOURCES AND THEIR MANAGEMENT AND THE QUALITY OF THE ENVIRONMENT. LWF EDUCATED CITIZENS ON THE NEED FOR COASTAL RESTORATION AND CURRENT STATE PLANS VIA EMAIL, NEWSLETTER, AND SOCIAL MEDIA AND ONLINE EVENTS.
CONSERVATION LEADERSHIP CORPS ENGAGED 21 SELECTED UNDERGRADUATE COLLEGE STUDENTS FROM ACROSS THE STATE TO DEVELOP AND MENTOR THEIR LEADERSHIP IN CONSERVATION VIA ZOOM MEETINGS HELD ON 4 WEEKENDS. SEVEN VOLUNTEERS AND 20 PRESENTERS SUPPORTED THE PROGRAM IN 2021.
ACADEMICS AFIELD RECRUITED 10 COLLEGE STUDENTS AT LSU TO MENTOR AND BUILD A COMMUNITY OF SKILLED PEERS TO BECOME AVID HUNTERS AND LIFETIME CONSERVATIONISTS. STUDENTS WERE PROVIDED TRAINING IN FIREARMS SAFETY, HUNTING OPPORTUNITY, GAME BIOLOGY/ECOLOGY, HUNTING TACTICS, CULMINATING IN MENTORED HUNTS.
