NAPLES MUSIC CLUB SCHOLARSHIP: THE PURPOSE OF THE MFGN (MUSIC FOUNDATION OF GREATER NAPLES) SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION IS TO RECOGNIZE AND REWARD EXCELLENCE IN PERFORMANCE AND TO ENCOURAGE CONTINUED GROWTH MUSICALLY. THE MFGN SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM BEGAN IN 1970 WITH ONE SMALL GRANT AWARDED TO A COLLIER COUNTY STUDENT FOR SUMMER STUDY. SINCE THEN, CONTRIBUTIONS FROM A GENEROUS COMMUNITY HAVE MADE IT POSSIBLE TO SUPPORT ALMOST 800 MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH MORE THAN $550,000 (2014 FIGURES). IN 2018-19 WE PRESENTED OVER 60 WINNERS MORE THAN $67,000! THE MFGN COMPETITIONS ARE OPEN TO STUDENTS IN GRADES 6-12 WHO RESIDE IN COLLIER COUNTY OR IN THE ADJACENT COMMUNITIES OF BONITA SPRINGS OR ESTERO, AND ARE PRESENTLY ENROLLED IN PUBLIC OR PRIVATE SCHOOLS OR ARE HOME SCHOOLED. COMPETITION CATEGORIES ARE BRASS, WOODWINDS, PIANO, PERCUSSION, STRINGS, VOICE AND GUITAR. SCHOLARSHIPS ARE USED FOR SUCH PURSUITS OR ITEMS SUCH AS SUMMER MUSIC CAMPS, STUDY WITH PRIVATE TEACHERS, INSTRUMENT UPGRADE, OR FOR COLLEGE STUDIES. DUE TO COIVD-19, SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION WAS CANCELED. THE SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION FOR 2021 WILL BE HELD VIRTUALLY. ALL GRADE LEVELS AND INSTRUMENT CATEGORIES LISTED WILL BE ABLE TO COMPETE SAFELY FROM THEIR HOMES.
OUTREACH PROGRAMS:SCIENTISTS HAVE NOW PROVEN THAT EARLY INSTRUCTION IN PLAYING A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT ENHANCES BRAIN FUNCTION. NEURAL NETWORKS ARE CREATED THAT IMPROVE VERBAL, SPATIAL RELATIONS, SCIENCE, AND MATH ABILITIES. BEST RESULTS OCCUR IF THE STUDENT STARTS AT 4-5 YEARS OF AGE. DESCRIPTION:MUSICSCORES IS A COST-EFFECTIVE PROGRAM CREATED BY JUDY EVANS THAT ENHANCES LEARNING ABILITY BY PROVIDING LITERACY TRAINING FOR PRESCHOOLERS WHILE TEACHING THEM TO PLAY THE VIOLIN. THE GOALS ARE AS FOLLOWS: INCREASE LISTENING SKILLS AND ATTENTION SPAN (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O)DEVELOP PRE-READING SKILLS AND SIGHT-WORD RECOGNITIONINCREASE ABILITY TO RECOGNIZE PATTERNSIDENTIFY LIKENESS/DIFFERENCES IN SOUNDS & SHAPESIMPROVE MEMORY AND ABSTRACT THINKINGIMPROVE EYE-HAND COORDINATION & FINE MOTOR SKILLSDEVELOP MATHEMATICAL SKILLS (COUNTING AND KEEPING TIME)LEARN BEGINNING VIOLIN-PLAYING TECHNIQUESFOSTER LIFE-LONG LEARNING BEHAVIORS THROUGH A LOVE OF MUSIC! GUADALUPE STUDENTS WENT FROM THE LOWEST 25% IN KINDERGARTEN READINESS IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA TO THE HIGHEST 25%.AVALON DEMONSTRATED KINDERGARTEN READINESS IN 90% OF STUDENTS WHO HAD TAKEN THE PRE-K VIOLIN PROGRAM AND 66% OF PRE-K STUDENTS WITHOUT VIOLIN. 400 HEAD START CHILDREN WERE ENROLLED IN THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR.

SIXTY-FIVE STUDENTS WERE ENROLLED IN THE IMMOKALEE 2020 PROGRAM. IMPACT:STUDENTS SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVE THEIR TECHNIQUE AND THEIR ENJOYMENT OF MUSIC. THEY BECOME MORE EFFECTIVE MEMBERS OF THEIR MUSIC ORGANIZATION. STUDENTS GAIN CONFIDENCE TO CONTINUE INVOLVEMENT IN SCHOOL MUSIC PROGRAMS. SOME BECOME SIGNIFICANTLY EXPERT TO AUDITION FOR PRIVATE MUSIC LESSONS THROUGH THE NAPLES MUSIC CLUB HAEGG AWARDS.(CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O) A MENTORING RELATIONSHIP IS DEVELOPED BETWEEN SOME OF THE STUDENTS AND THE PROFESSIONAL MUSICIAN.
