THE BIG HOUSE, APTLY NAMED, WAS THE CENTRAL HUB OF OPERATIONS FOR THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND FOR THE FIRST FORMATIVE YEARS OF THE BAND FROM 1970- 1973. THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND WERE THE PIONEERS OF THE MUSIC GENRE KNOWN TODAY AS SOUTHERN ROCK AND CONTINUE TO BE A LASTING INFLUENCE ON THE MUSIC WORLD. THE HOUSE WAS CONSIDERED "HOME" FOR THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND AND THEIR FAMILIES, ROADIES, AND FRIENDS IN THE EARLY SEVENTIES, AND IN 1993 BECAME HOME TO ONE OF THE BAND'S ROAD MANAGERS. AFTER WELCOMING FANS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD, IT WAS DECIDED THAT THE HOUSE SHOULD BECOME A MUSEUM TO SHOWCASE THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND'S MEMORABILIA AND CONTINUE THE LEGACY OF THE BAND. IN 2009, THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND MUSEUM AT THE BIG HOUSE OPENED ITS DOORS AND CONTINUES TO BE A STAPLE IN THE MIDDLE GEORGIA COMMUNITY, AS WELL AS A TOP TOURIST ATTRACTION FOR MACON. IN 2021 WE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE THE MUSEUM TO THE PEOPLE. THE BIG HOUSE MUSEUM WAS INVITED TO TAKE PART IN "THE SPIRIT OF THE SOUTH TOUR" WITH BLACKBERRY SMOKE, THE ALLMAN BETTS BAND, AND THE WILD FEATHERS. WE DID AN 18-CITY TOUR WHERE WE SET UP A TRAVELING EXHIBIT ON THE CONCOURSES OF THE AMPHITHEATERS AND EDUCATED THE PUBLIC ON THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND AND THE IMPORTANCE OF THE MUSIC THEY CREATED.
