TO PLAN AND PROMOTE THE ORDERLY DEVELOPMENT, WISE USE AND CONSERVATION OF THE REGIONS NATURAL RESOURCES INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING: SOIL, WATER, AIR, HUMAN, CULTURAL, FOREST, RECREATION AND WILDLIFE TO IMPROVE THE GENERAL LEVEL OF ECONOMIC ACTIVITY.

COMMUNITY WILDFIRE RESILIENCY INITATIVESCLL ENTERED ONTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE US FORRST SERVICE AND NC FOREST SERVICE TO EDUCATE THE CITIZENS AND COMMUNITIES ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING FIREWISE. THIS PROGRAM HELPS HOMEOWNERS CREATE DEFENSIBLE SPACE AROUND THEIR HOMES THAT SHOULD PROTECT THEM IN CASE OF WILDFIRES. CLL MEETS WITH THE NC FOREST RANGER IN EACH OF ITS COUNTIES TO COORDINATE THESE EFFORTS. CLL STAFF HAVE CONDUCTED OVER 40 WORKSHOPS AND HAVE HELD MANY MITIGATION DAYS TO CLEAR DEBRIS AWAY FROM HOMES.
BIOENERGY WAREHOUSECLL RECEIVED FUNDING IN 2022 TO BUILD A BIOENERGY WAREHOUSE. THIS WAREHOUSE WILL BE USED TO STORE BIOFUEL AND MAKE IT MORE ACCESIBLE AND ATTAINABLE FOR CHICKEN FARMERS AND OTHER ENTITIES THAT BENEFIT FROM GREEN ENERGY. THE PROJECT IS STLL IN THE CONSTRUCTION PHASE.
WATER INITATIVEHAVING CLEAN WATER AND HIGH WATER QUALITY IS EXTEREMLY IMPORTANT TO OUR LOCAL ECONOMIES AND IT SERVES AN IMPORTANT MEASURE FOR A SAFE ENVIRONMENT AND THRIVING COMMUNITY IN ATTRACTING NEW BUSINESSES, HOUSING, AND NEW RECREATION OPPORTUNITIES IN THE SURROUNDING AREAS. IN 2021, CLL STARTED A STREAM DEBRIS REMOVAL PROJECT. CLL WORKS WITH THE LOCAL SOIL AND WATER AGENCIES TO IDENTIFY STREAMS THAT NEED THIS SERVICE AND TO IDENTIFY FUNDING SOURCES. IN PARTNERSIP WITH OTHER CONSERVATION GROUPS, CLL REMOVED 750 POUNDS OF TRASH AND CLEARED 5 LOGJAMS IN ONE AFTERNOON FROM JACOBS FORK RIVER. DEBRIS REMOVAL IS HELPFUL FOR RECREATION, EROSION CONTROL AND FLOOD MITIGATION.
