INVESTOR FORUM: THE ORGANIZATION (SOUTHEAST LIFE SCIENCES) HOSTS A LIFE SCIENCE-FOCUSED INVESTOR CONFERENCE ONCE A YEAR. THE CONFERENCE ROTATES BETWEEN SOUTHEASTERN STATES EACH YEAR AND TYPICALLY DRAWS BETWEEN 200-400 ATTENDEES. THE OBJECTIVE OF THE CONFERENCE IS TO ENCOURAGE NETWORKING AMONG THE KEY MEMBERS OF THE SOUTHEAST'S LIFE SCIENCE BUSINESS COMMUNITY AND THOSE LOOKING TO DO BUSINESS IN THE REGION, IN AN EFFORT TO SUPPORT EMERGING SOUTHEAST-BASED COMPANIES. ATTENDEES TYPICALLY INCLUDE VENTURE CAPITALISTS, ANGEL INVESTORS, BIOTECHNOLOGY AND MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY EXECUTIVES, ENTREPRENEURS, UNIVERSITY REPRESENTATIVES AND OTHER INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS. A PRIMARY AND IMMEDIATE GOAL OF THE CONFERENCE IS TO SHOWCASE EARLY-STAGE LIFE SCIENCE COMPANIES TO INVESTORS AND (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O) (CONT'D) CORPORATE PARTNERS WHO MAY BE INTERESTED IN FUNDING THEIR NEXT PHASE OF DEVELOPMENT. SINCE THE INVESTOR FORUM BEGAN IN 1999, OVER 700 COMPANIES HAVE PRESENTED AT SEBIO AND SEMDA (THE TWO ORGANIZATIONS THAT MERGED TO FORM SOUTHEAST LIFE SCIENCES). IN ADDITION, THE CONFERENCE OFFERS MULTIPLE EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS RELEVANT TO EMERGING LIFE SCIENCE COMPANIES. A LONG-TERM GOAL OF THE CONFERENCE IS TO STRENGTHEN AND GROW THE REGIONAL LIFE SCIENCE INDUSTRY BY ENCOURAGING INVESTMENT IN AND PARTNERSHIPS WITH SOUTHEAST-BASED COMPANIES.
MEDTECH WOMEN@SLS WAS DEVELOPED TO HELP FOSTER NETWORKING, MENTORING, AND EDUCATION OF WOMEN IN THE MEDTECH COMMUNITY. IN 2021, MEDTECH WOMEN@SLS HOSTED A VIRTUAL CONFERENCE IN SEPTEMBER, BRINGING TOGETHER MORE THAN 100 LEADERS FROM ACROSS THE NATION. WOMEN@SLS IS OVERSEEN BY AN UNOFFICIAL GOVERNING BOARD, WHICH WORKS WITH SLS STAFF ON PROGRAMMING AND MARKETING.
